As for the car, some people try and get by with getting rides, borrowing a car, public transportation, renting (more rarely). Some people do buy a cheap used car and then sell it or keep it for a 2nd car. A lot depends on the location, which people there will know better. Snoochies... your COLA is based on 20% of your spendable income . So this is a rough estimate because they take how many dependents into account but I figured 7600 for your situation so divide by 21 paychecks. It might be a little less.

You can find the $ amount for the LQA at the Department of State Website, group 3 (I believe). However, the main point is that your housing and basic utilities should be covered.
