Has anyone successfully listed their home of record as being in one state, but requested their move originate in a different state? I'm in FL right now in an apartment, and have been here for less than 6months. After I leave I will have no attachment to this state. Meanwhile, the house I own is in Washington. I'd like to bring the items from FL with me to Korea, but when it comes to allowed flights back and whatnot, WA is where I will want to go.

IsItFriday? Choose your home of record carefully. It is almost impossible to change your home of record after you come on board.

IsItFriday? If you chose FL as your HOR you may still return to WA every summer. Flights to WA would be cheaper than FL so there would be no added expense.

But remember, changing your HOR is almost impossible, and in the future you may be posted to Europe.

HelpOthers The DOD guidelines state Home of Record is where you are living when you are sent abroad. I had been in my location less than a year. You can ask for consideration, but don't know that process.

On the other hand, they will send you to your HoR for RAT and when you leave DODEA (or the cost of it). They will also pay to send you some place ...See More

Cdub I currently live in Germany (working at an international school), and was told it is no problem to move from my current location, while using my hometown in the US as my HOR.

WA_Counselor I was told by my HR rep that my HoR is the location I am hired from - end of story. Neither WA nor FL have state income tax, so I guess I'll worry about it when I start thinking about making the US my home again. I'd like to stay abroad until I retire, which is quite some time away, but we'll see what happens on the world stage and go from there.
