I have a referral process question. I was told by HR that I would get an automated referral email, ahead of a possible/potential interview. I was also told that if a principal ask for a referral, it might take several weeks for the referral to be issued and for me to get the automated email. This confused me as I realized that I don't understand what exactly is a referral and who initiates it or acts on it.

Since I was told "automated", I thought the referral would come quickly to tell me that I had been flagged as qualified for certain position(s) and put on the list for those. It is also quite possible that I completely misunderstood what I was told: jeez, that would be the first time... :)

Thanks in advance for clarifications

You will have to check back and look at your EAS to see when that is done (unless that has changed). This just signifies that you are in the pool of available/qualifie...See More

tony75 Thank you both for your answers. So the principal requests a referral when he/she opens a position with HR, then people qualified for it get automatically on the list as per their matching qualifications, and finally the principal choose candidates from the list?

haha Yes, except that the people on a particular list may only be a small fraction of the qualified candidates in the system/
