Hello amazing DODD teachers, I'm envious of you all as it is my dream to teach for DODEA. I finally submitted my first application on the 31st, I have read so much about how it can literally take up to 10 years to get a job in the system or sometimes never! so I'm not counting on this time around at all.

I was curious if anyone had any more information for me on special-education for DODEA. I found some information and it appears that there is a lot of programs overseas for special needs, I've heard so many rumors about how they don't have a lot of special education on bases because they try to keep more high needs kids on us soil etc is this true? Do they have self contained programs and push in/pull out programs?

Also, I know special education is in high demand in the US. Is it high demand with DODEA? Or is it "easier" to get into the system with a special education credential? I am currently in my sixth year and have a lot of experience with a wide range of disabi...See More
haha Hi. Services/programs vary from school to school, location to location. All schools (virtually all, to be conservative) have some kind of resource room type program taught by a Learning Impaired Mild to Moderate teacher. missdaley Hello "Haha," Thank you so much!! Your post was very helpful. After I posted this I actually went back and looked through many of the posts on this account and read all the helpful information you have posted throughout the last year or so. You're awesome. Also, I have been looking more into the "certs" with DODEA as it seems to be pretty tricky. N...See More

haha No problem. A SPED degree will generally get you LIMM. After that, it usually takes 12 credit hours in a certain specialty to add LIMS, EI, etc. A state cert in a specific area will generally reduce the normally requited credits by half.

So, you probably have LIMM ES, MS and HS which are the most common SPED positions with DoDEA. If you a...See More

I ❤ sped I'm in year 2 with DODEA and teaching in a LIMS setting (Learning Impaired Moderate to Severe). I am certified in all areas for my state but initially DODEA certified me for LIMM elementary, middle, and high school only. I had to take 6 credits (half of the 12 required) because I was certified for moderate/severe in my state to become certified wit...See More
