I am teacher still in my two year provisional status. I want to leave DODEA. It has nothing to do with anything other than some family things that are going on at home. I know I would need to pay for the move and other things they paid for. What is the proper protocol for leaving....the process? Has anyone done this before or have any advice?

uh89 Yes, I did exactly that when I was in the middle of a 2 year DoDDS contract in Japan. I left after just one year, but for reasons that would have negatively affected my stateside state teachers retirement had I stayed in Japan.

Just Me I keep hearing a lot about being overseas affecting stateside retirement. Do you not just take your stateside retirement out when you get hired with the DODEA? I'm trying to learn the process.

haha People are generally referring to retirement benefits from a particular state. If you are close to being vested in a given state's retirement benefits then leaving early could make a significant difference for you as far as pension benefits.
