I am 35 years old and going through a career change. My husband is retired Navy and we want to get back to living abroad and I have a strong urge to teach abroad. Therefore, I have a few questions and any feedback is welcomed(honest and blunt opinions are encouraged!) I should have all of the education requirements completed by December 2020. Is becoming a DODD teacher an unrealistic expectation of a fresh grad? Any pointers for education requirements? anything I can do now to have my application more attractive?

Thank you!
IsItFriday? Complete your student teaching in a DoDEA school.

Quailfy in multiple core subject certs.

Note that while positions can open at any time, completing your requirements by Dec 2020 means that you will compete for the SY 21/22 hiring, which will occur in the spring of 2021. Man, that's more than two years away.

And yes, DoDE...See More

haha Basically agree. Some people are hired right out of college but it is unusual, unless you have some unique/super in demand certification area(s).

ashmo I would try any international schools abroad. Some hire fresh grads. If you end up at a place with a base then he could maybe contract? My coworker and her husband are doing that now

haha That's a good thought. Most people on here are looking for DoDEA or nothing but int'l schools can offer a chance to live/teach abroad and are generally easier to get into than DoDEA. And, you can continue to be in the EAS system for DoDEA while working abroad and hoping for an offer (worked for us!).
