Hello,

I have finalized my application and submitted two years in a row. I have a social studies 7-12 renewed license and I am living in Japan. I have been considering taking the appropriate tests to add a SPED qualification this year. It is two specific tests that will take a bit of time to study for. Because I have a Masters in Education, I am able to add different qualifications to my license.

Do you think this is worth it, and might it make a difference in me being selected?

Icanread Thankfully age is not taken into consideration at all. We have many teachers who have been hired well into their 40s or even 50s. I was 42 when I was hired. In fact in my experience, DoDEA seems to hire experienced teachers who have 10+ years teaching. haha Agree that age is one thing that is NOT holding you back. If anything you're on the younger side for DoDEA. :D

I think your certification area increases the odds against you (more candidates for fewer openings). Your university experience may also be hindering you. Many people may feel that your job is harder than a DoDEA HS teacher's job ...See More

haha In general, the more regions you put down for target jobs, the better your chances. The exception would be if you put yourself down as a local for the Tokyo(?) area.
