If your LQA is more than what you are spending on rent/utilities, is the remaining amount just extra income or is your LQA reduced?

Also, anyone else have done this and your spouse was unemployed? Mine has to resign his job. Telecommuting not an option. Have read conflicting info on how easy/hard it is for a spouse to find a job in Europe.

I'm excited, but this is scary!
HelpOthers You must reconcile LQA with receipts for utilities. If you were overpaid, they will deduct it from future income and will reduce future LQA.

My husband has not been able to find employment in the software industry abroad. After 18 months he accepted a position as a special education para.

Angela @mary, thanks! We should be about even like that too. Just wondering...if I'm Europe, did you buy a second car once you got there? Not sure if this is doable with one car.

HelpOthers In Europe, your spouse may be more likely to find employment. My husband's company would have been able to keep him had we been in Europe. I don't know the expense of cars in Europe, but in Japan, they are inexpensive enough that we purchased two within the first few months. We have four drivers now, so may purchase a third car soon.

haha Most bases will have a lemon lot and/or dealers near base. In most locations good used cars should be around the same as Japan, maybe slightly higher (but still very affordable).

Couple of Questions We've been here (Italy) for 3 years and I (my husband is the teacher) have been subbing, but unable to find regular full-time employment, even for positions I'm extremely qualified for. At this point, I'm really not worried about it. We aren't suffering with me not having a full time job, I would like it more just to get out of the house.
