How quickly did you receive a firm offer after receiving your tentative offer and completing the onboarding paperwork + sending in background checks? I am a local hire overseas and with school starting in 2 weeks, I'm nervous I won't be starting on time.

Icanread I had to physically go into the travel office at the local base, but we lived in a town with a base. If you don't have that option, I'm not sure what you do. They should schedule plane tickets based on your travel order. Have you asked your HR rep how to schedule travel?

Icanread I looked back at my paperwork from when I was hired. I received an email from my HR specialist with detailed directions on how to schedule my tickets and the move of my household goods. I would follow up with HR to get more info on how to schedule tickets.

educatormama Thanks @Icanread, yes, my HR specialist says that my travel is arranged by another department and she doesn't have any information on the process (I've asked her lots of questions about travel). Someone is supposed to contact me, but I don't know who and I don't know which department she'll be from. All I keep hearing is someone will contact me...

Icanread Oh. That's a bummer. I would just keep bugging her to remind her you haven't heard from the travel office.

HelpOthers If you have orders, you should be able to contact the travel office yourself to arrange the travel. If you live near a military facility, I would contact their travel office for help.
