Do you have to wait until arrival in assignment country to get your CAC card, or can you get it from a local base before you leave? Just thought I would ask before I start researching!
Angela Ooops, just found my answer, sorry! The answer is no. Has to be after arrival.

Snow Lane Yes, it's when you arrive. You need a letter of employment, which you won't get until you get there. Just be prepared to have to carry your passport everywhere! It took three weeks for me to get my letter of employment and it was a bit of a pain.

kiki08 If you already have a CAC will it work at the new location?

haha Tough to say. I recall people moving from DoDEA Americas still having issues and having hoops to jump through (and we had issues moving from Europe to Japan).

They have since changed all email addresses to the @dodea.edu format but have no idea if that would eliminate the obstacles for you.

HelpOthers My America's CAC worked only as an identification card. I still needed my passport and orders to get onto the military facility. I needed a new one in my current location to get my new e-mail, log into the computer, and to have the commissary and exchange privileges.
