Since then, I've earned a Masters in my content area and I wondered if it would exempt me from some of the classes they say I need when I was denied other certs. Those were Drama and Journalism. I'm not state certified in them and they said I needed one-two classes extra to be qualified.
Because I now have a Masters in English, does this help? Should I get state certified first and then re-trigger it? Or just trigger it and see what happens? I have to email them anyway bc each time I've triggered a cert for the past year and they've approved it, they've never went back and approved the pending one :/

In my reading of the requirements, it looks like you would still need the 9 hours in Journalism/Speech, even with the Masters in English/state certification in English. Generally getting a state cert in an area would halve the requirements for that area but I'm not sure how that would impact the 9 hours. When in doubt, call or write HR and then let...See More

I thought there was a way to add AP but it's not in the target jobs any longer (if it ever was) but it's not something I have any personal experience with. Maybe someone who has done it will post.

Thank you for the responses! I also thought I remembered seeing AP classes for quals when I first started applying but maybe I was wrong. I did have someone deny me SS once bc I wasn't AP gov't certified, but I had that changed pretty quick due to it's irrelevancy. I will get the MS English taken care of soon.
