1) national board certification. I am already doing it anyways because i live in NC and will get a very nice salary boost from it. I just dont know if it matters for DOD. If it does maybe I'll work on it faster!
2) additional certification in special education K-12. Currently I am certified B-k, and dont really want to teach above that range but I dont think its hard in NC to add that.
3) I was qualified only for Disabled PREK and needed 3 courses for regular PREK. Should I just take those a la carte?
4) other stand alone specialized trainings that are current and relevant? Anything on military families perhaps? I feel like I'm fairly maxed out on trainings but im sure there ...See More

I didn't mean to disparage older kids with special needs (that is where my students go after all!) I have just avoided it because I have a SED background and do not want to get kids with those behaviors who are bigger. At 46 I'm not as quick on my feet anymore. No problem with me. Most people have preference and favorite groups to teach. I started in Mod to Severe and enjoyed it, for a few years. :S Now, I would not want to switch from LI HS/MS.

If you love the littles, add preschool. Civilians overseas are not screened through EFMP, so there are some locations with more severe behaviors than others. I agree that while adding sped might get you the referrals, if you don't want to teach older kids it's Murphy's law that you will be required to do so.
