Hi, everyone! I have a question about moving overseas with a child with an IEP. My son is in kindergarten and we are in the middle of the IEP process here in the States. Once we have an IEP in place and we move overseas, does the DoDEA school he'll attend just follow the IEP we take from his current school? Specifically, I'm concerned about speech therapy. If his IEP includes one-on-one sessions, will that be honored by the DoDEA school? I'm wondering how hard I should push for one-on-one sessions now, or if it'll even matter when we go overseas. Thank you!

questionsallday I'm an SLP here and my caseload is in the high 40s. There is no way I could see all of my kids 1:1. I see them in small groups (3 kids max), so much funner for the kids and for me that way anyway. And it is legal as long as you meet the minutes on their IEP.

Soda When you receive an incoming IEP, the standard is to provide comparable services for up to 30 school days. From there, an IEP can be accepted written or accepted with modifications. I'm not saying that caseload completely dictates group vs individual therapy, but it is a factor. If we feel a student needs 1-1 we do whatever we can to make it happen...See More
