If there is any advice or the possibility of some clarity to be found through another's experience and perspective, it should be sought.
This post is a bit long.
Short background: I was excessed from a teaching position this June due to COVID. Scrambling to land a position, and the need for health insurance through employment by the end of the summer, I applied to the DoDEA, interviewed, received a tentative offer, and recently the official job offer.
The process for the DoDEA is/was totally hurry-up-and-wait. I had also sent in applications to other school districts in the area, and a week prior to the DoDEA official offer, I snagged a position.

@ajg437, I'm in the same boat. I have always wanted to work for DoDEA but I make more in my state, and I did not even consider retirement. Right now we get a fixed 7% return on our TDA. 7% fixed return is nice for peace of mind and I would probably take that if it was on offer (even though with a little luck and "smart" investing I might do better).
