Hi! There's been a post about this prior I believe but adult decisions are sometimes tough, no?

If there is any advice or the possibility of some clarity to be found through another's experience and perspective, it should be sought.

This post is a bit long.

Short background: I was excessed from a teaching position this June due to COVID. Scrambling to land a position, and the need for health insurance through employment by the end of the summer, I applied to the DoDEA, interviewed, received a tentative offer, and recently the official job offer.

The process for the DoDEA is/was totally hurry-up-and-wait. I had also sent in applications to other school districts in the area, and a week prior to the DoDEA official offer, I snagged a position.

newdodea12345 @ajg437, I'm in the same boat. I have always wanted to work for DoDEA but I make more in my state, and I did not even consider retirement. Right now we get a fixed 7% return on our TDA. haha 7% fixed return is nice for peace of mind and I would probably take that if it was on offer (even though with a little luck and "smart" investing I might do better).

Again, the 7% is just one factor, since the 7% return is based on what you put into the account. Are your contributions (or at least a percentage) being matched by your employ...See More
