1. If you are at a one year location, is it one full school year or one full calendar year? DEROS falls outside of both. I cannot find a straight answer anywhere.

2. Would you be allowed a compassionate reassignment before that time is up? How is your reassignment duty station decided if you do not need to go to a specific area (ie; child added to EFMP status that cannot be serviced in current area)?

I know these aren't all straight forward answers, but any insight is valuable!

We don't have a DEROS. But that idea is too mind-bending for non-DoDEA people to comprehend. For them, the DEROS is almost as important a date, as their child's birthday. DEROS signifies progression in their career, and a move to a new location, which often means a step up the ladder.

HelpOthers One year is 175+ school days. If you were hired too late to complete 175 school-days, that first year will not count towards the years for RAT. Teach Thank you, @HO! I was hired in early July as an internal hire and it still took me until mid October to report after quarantine time (yes, really). So, qualifying for RAT is basically the equivalent to completing your contract?

HelpOthers Yes. It is Renewal Agreement Travel. This means you are renewing your contract. If you are in a one-year RAT location, you still have to complete two years before they will pay to send you back with all your items etc (I think).
