How is the healthcare quality in mainland Japan? Are teachers able to use the local hospitals or do they have to get referrals from the base first? Are the emergency rooms on base? My wife has a few medical issues, so healthcare is important.

poke dreams Generally, if you are civilian, don't rely on using the base hospitals, especially dental. Your best bet will be to go off base. haha Like I said, it varies widely by location, year, etc. We have had no problems getting access/service on base at several different locations in Europe and Japan (and can still get appt's, medication, even now) and finding high quality health care off base. Educate Thanks for all the comments. Basically my wife has 1 or 2 anaphylaxis episodes a month from an unknown cause. We just need to know if there are emergency rooms quickly available in Japan.

HelpOthers It will depend on your location. I suggest communication with EFMP before interviewing. Maybe even contact them in advance before choosing locations.
