I had a great interview yesterday and (hopefully) expect an offer based on what was said. Today I got another referral for a school I really want.
My question is how long do you have to accept the offer once extended? I was told to expect to hear something next week once decisions were made on Friday.
MyDODI don't want to jinx myself right now! I'm feeling good about it but also realistic and won't be devastated if I'm not chosen. I wish you guys the best of luck this hiring season!!! This is my 4th year in the app system :/
I am a licensed SLP (8 years) who wants to become a PSCD teacher and work in both disciplines within DoDEA. I hold several degrees in SPED-related areas, such as an MS degree in Speech-Language Pathology, an M.Ed degree (emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis), and Ph.D. in Adapted Physical Education/Activities.
I would like to know how crediting works to become a teacher for DoDEA. I have classroom experience but no state teacher's license because my state didn't require an SLP to get a teacher's certification for the classroom. They
Also, I have worked for the government as an EDIS SLP and have my most current SF50 on my EAS application. I have completed the EAS system and have all green checkmarks. I'm just waiting to get mark-qualified in my area of desired work.
Area's I seek qualification/credentialing by DoDEA and have completed in the EAS system are:
0414 Speech/Language Pathologist (Assessor)
0415 Assessor (Special Education)
0429 Disabled Preschool
0472 Speech/Language Pathologist
I really enjoy early childhood intervention and want to become fully immersed in the SPED arena. (I may seem crazy or over-ambitious however, I want to serve as both a PSCD teacher and SLP/SLP Assessor for DoDEA concurrently if possible).
Furthermore, I want to ensure that I may meet credentialing. Is there a public
regulation or manual that specifies coursework or credentialing criteria for each area mention? I found nothing specific on the DoDEA site. I saw the teaching area but wanted more inside the course for credentialing in the PSCD and SPED Assessor areas. I am pretty sure (hopeful I should say) that I will qualify as an SLP and SLP Assessor. I want to become a strong candidate in all areas.
Lastly, I am not opposed to doing more school coursework if needed to qualify for the areas I want. I desire a unique opportunity to provide multiple disciplines in the SPED community, hopefully for DoDEA.
Thank you, and I look forward to any insight on credentialing or professional advice on a path forward anyone may have. I apologize for the lengthy email.
You generally don't find someone doing PSCD and SLP/SLP Assessor at the same time, but it could happen in theory, depending on the size of the school/complex, I suppose.
Unless you get very lucky (some people do), lack of experience will be an issue. So, get certified, get your application in and get a teaching job as soon as you can and starting notching some years of experience.
I found commercial return flights from the US to Okinawa with a connection in Korea. Would this be a possible way to avoid having to ROM in Tokyo and Okinawa? Or would Korea make us ROM also?
CookieThanks for the info. At times, I prefer asking on this platform because I like my privacy. This is a great starting point and the you provided is very helpful.
I do not know why a...See MoreI believe if you have Vet preference and are at the top of the referral list based on HR's point system, they may need to interview you, but if you are determine to be less qualified than other candidates, they would need to complete a detailed packet to show how the chosen candidate(s) are more qualified than you are.
I do not know why an interview would be cancelled for someone with Vet preference at the top of the list, but for others, it may be that they believe they have found the best candidate already and don't have time for additional interviews. I believe this has happened to others, so the advice I read was to always interview as soon as possible rather than waiting.
Basically, one man's trash is another man's treasure, so for every hardship position there are may people who like it/love it there, or at are least fine with it to get there foot in the door.

Can someone please explain how placement on the pay scale works? I am used to seeing years of experience and level of education, and the posted scale is grade and step. I have taught for 22 years and have a Masters + 145 credits.
Both scales ARE based on level of education and years of experience, but look a little different from what you may be used to (and from each other).
For overseas, DoDEA will generally credit you with up to 10 years experience, with everyone starting on Step 1. So, the highest step you could start on would be Step 11. For salary lane, it is based on BA + 15, +30 or Masters +15, +30, Doctorate. For you, it sounds like the highest starting position would be Step 11, under the Masters +30 salary lane.
DoDEA Americas only grants 5 years or credit and everyone starts on Step 0, so Step 5 would be the highest. Salary lane is a bit weird because they use numbers instead of degree +. If you look back a few years on older salary scales, you can see what the letter correspond with. I believe Masters +30 corresponds to Lane 16. EDS to Lane 17 and Doctorate to Lane 18.
