I am asking for advice from people who have done the same. I have been trying to get on with DODEA for about 3 years. I was offered a job stateside and not overseas like I was hoping for. I am specialized so that does help tremendously. I am thrilled to have the offer make no mistake. Should I take a stateside job give 110% and do my best to network and aim for an overseas job if it comes my way?
That has been my overall goal for some time. Does anyone know if you stay active in the system while currently working for DODEA? I'm just trying to get any and all information I can.
I feel like I have a lot of positive things - passion for the needs of military kids, life experience, familiarity with DODEA, passports ready to travel, etc. However, I know I will be competing against experienced teachers, internal transfers, and local hires. Other than finishing the degree and getting licensed here in Hawaii, what are some things I could be doing to make myself look better on paper? I won't be heartbroken if I don't get hired for the 2018-2019 school year, but I really want to be teaching for DODEA in 2019-2020. I am open to world wide, but would prefer Europe. Thanks for any guidance!
Also - I've started some of the required "training" online preemptively. So far, only 2 will open up or let me complete them without some sort of log in. Did you get credentials to complete these? (found these sites on the on boarding page)
TeachDon't do the trainings, as the school system gives us time to complete those (at least I was always given time in DDESS and Okinawa). Some of the info on that on-boarding page seems to pertain more to folks who work in HQ.
Input: Is this adventure worth potentially leaving your family behind for 3-6 months...maybe the entire school year? Which is worse the family resentment for taking them to a place they do not want to go or your personal resentment for letting such a great opportunity go for the second time in two years?
SandArtWhat teach said. Please be considerate of the principal, staff, and the other teacher who could potentially take your place. I have been on teams where we had to help substitutes get started because a teacher bailed at the last minute. It's stressful enough getting your stuff ready, and adding a classroom neighbor who is a sub is not always fun.
Just accepted a DODEA job stateside and was wondering how long is it after you start ...(say August) before you get your first check? Also Do you get paid twice monthly or once monthly? Thanks in advance!
ok...this just happened... went to courthouse and applied for passports.... clerk didn't fill out any of the boxes on the DD form 1056. Was she supposed to? she said she wasn't, so she left it blank, attached it to the envelope. inserted it into an express envelope and that was it. I'm hoping it doesn't get kicked back at this late date..
Only reason I caught...See MoreI emailed Ms. Doran and let her know what happened.. The application packet was express mailed directly from the courthouse to DoDEA. Worse case scenario, Ms. Doran will send the packet back to me, I will have the clerk break the seal, attach the Letter, re-seal the envelope and overnight the packet back to Ms. Doran.
Only reason I caught it was I re-read the electronic version of the Letter when I made it back home because my laptop was still open.
micorazonkilleenMs. Doran said so long as she receives packet it should be fine. I just hope I never have to go to the courthouse again. Lol. Well, at least not for passports. Lol
And for those fretting about the terms firm/tentative offer (like I was)...my travel orders email was labeled "firm offer". It all (timelines, types of offers) seems to be different for everyone so try not to sweat it.
IdaDo mind if I ask the date you leave? We haven't gotten final orders, so we wonder how far back the actual leave date will be then we originally thought. Thanks!
