Wondering if applying for an ISS position is similar to getting hired through EAS?

I've had more success getting referred for ISS positions than teaching ones. Excited, but unsure.

HelpOthers The ISS positions are being filled through USA Jobs rather than the EAS. Sometimes other positions like school nurse, school counselor, etc. are also posted on USA Jobs and any teaching position they are unable to fill or find enough applicants are posted in USA Jobs. I just found out that my application became inactive today as I spoke to the principal yesterday. I have so many questions about safety, travel, commitment, pets, job for husband, etc. Is there someone who is designated to answer them all? LOL :) Thanks for any input.

haha My understanding (again check for accuracy) is that the pay is also higher due to the fact that the school week runs from Sun-Thursday with Fri and Sat and off.

HelpOthers haha is correct, and if you are Christian, some local denominations have adjusted their meeting schedule to the Sabbath day observed in the area.

Audiology

Did any one else have issues getting the audiology component of medical eval done? Are my docs making it a bigger deal than it should be? I can't do walk I audiology screening because that's for active duty but the next appointment is mid August. How did you get that part done?

oregonslp I had a fellow SLP in my school district do the hearing portion. We all have access to audiometers and are trained to use them. My HR person confirmed this was okay.

How do officials view a situation where I report to my school but they don't join me for several months? Would this impact my housing options? What about authorization for their flights? Anyone know if we will be allowed to live on base in Osan? Really need insights...someone care to share that facebook page for those of us with tentative offers??

haha As Teach posted, it can affect your LQA but you should still be fine on getting a nice place and not have to pay out of pocket (around a $5K difference for the year, depending on your family size). In many locations people do not use all of their LQA and still live very well.

HelpOthers If they are following you within three months or so, you may still be in temporary housing. You could wait until they arrive before you seek long-term (more permanent) housing.

I've submitted my EQip and fingerprints and am now just waiting on the formal /firm offer. I don't feel like I can announce it to family/friends until I get the firm offer. How long did it take some of you to get the firm once you submitted your background stuff?

It took 10 years but I'm heading to Osan, South Korea to be Middle School Counselor and Secondary Social Studies Teacher. Prayers for patience during the upcoming arduous process.

onthemove Osan is a beautiful base! There is the best little Thai place just outside the gate (turn left, go a couple blocks and it is upstairs...delicious!). Be sure to do all the free trips and tours they offer for cultural experiences. They are great. Congratulations!
