Hey y'all! I'm currently in the process of waiting on my background check to clear. Can you tell me what they're looking for? They haven't contacted anyone on my contact list yet.
hahaCredit check, background check on various databases, randomly contacting a certain number of your contacts, etc. It will happen when it happens. Waiting is a pain and stressful but it will be worth it and quickly forgotten once you get to your new post.
Most people do get hired in Korea or Japan first but it does happen that people get hired to Europe. In our case we landed Europe for our first posting and then transferred TO Japan (because we had been there before with an int'l school and couldn't wait to get back).
SPED is a good area to have. You should try and maximize the area DoDDS considers you qualified in. You should have at least LIMM (mild to moderate) and ideally a few more areas like LIMS (moderate to severe) and EI (emotionally impaired).
cckarstTeach, I saw the link that tells how many courses are needed in each area. However, I didn't see the SPED categories listed (LIMM, LIMS, and EI). Maybe I'm looking at the wrong page. Can you paste the link? Thanks for all of your help!
On the other hand, if the both you getting hired at the same time is a deal breaker for you then you are dramatically decreasing your chances of getting hired. It has happened rarely in the past but it is virtually impossible these days. It's much more likely that one of you would get a position and then the other one would have to work their way in as a local hire (which is not really a disadvantage financially). Many locations would have multiple schools that might help the odds of that happening.
cckarstTeach, I'm new to this process. Would you mind explaining the transfer round? Do teachers from let's say Japan or Korea get first choice to go to Europe?
happyteacherThat's crazy. Especially since you can't just move overseas at the drop of a hat -- even without the freeze, it would be a few weeks for paperwork and travel orders and such. This is just another unnecessary delay for you, the students, and the school! Makes no sense. I'd like to see Trump teach a bunch of students in an overcrowded class!
hahaSorry to hear that. Hopefully the further guidance will come soon and it will be reasonable (as in since they don't issue start dates until your orders have actually been cut this shouldn't apply to these types of offers/positions). Hang in there.
Tough to say. Supposedly they have some wiggle room because we are so closely related to DoD (and can allegedly make exceptions if they can justify that leaving the position vacant will damage ability to maintain service levels etc).
hahaMy principal told me that the hiring freeze does not affect any positions that were offered and accept prior to the freeze. It's not definitive because they can sometimes get things wrong (or are told wrong information from District) but that seems to be the case.
infiniti4Thanks haha. I know you can't give me a 100% assurance of this, but it does make me feel a little bit better. Thank you so much for your response!
When we were stil...See MoreIt's standard practice actually. The list is really only published for current DoDDS teachers to look and decide whether they want to apply for a transfer to one of those listed positions. Now that the whole process is closed (except for the actual notification of who is going where) there is no need to keep it available.
When we were still trying to get into DoDDS we used to always download the lists so we could compare positions from year to year.
