Is the transfer round underway? Is there a lot of movement? I guess I just don't have much faith in the current administration and hiring freeze. Hoping this does not impact education at home or abroad.
kgteachhow will the transfer round impact me if i've just been hired 2 months ago? Will I lose my position to someone transferring into my district? thank you for the responses.
hahaYou're fine. The transfer round is only for firm projected openings for the fall. Presuming that you are already hired then your position is filled, not open.
It probably gives more of an advantage once you are on the job and can more easily identify with the mission/military culture of most of the parents/students (e.g. transient nature, stress of students moving often, having deployed parents etc). I would say a reasonable percentage of admin would find hiring a veteran to be a great advantage, possibly a smaller percentage would find it to be a disadvantage or neutral. In general I would say it is a small advantage in the odds of making a referral list/getting an interview. It might be of greater use to you in the interview if you present your experiences right.
Yes, the transfer round happens and then schools/districts will reassess needs/openings and pass them onto HR for approval. Hiring season for stateside hires can start in May and run strong through September. There are always exceptions and things could happen earlier or later (if the hiring freeze is lifted and/or DoDDS is exempted of course).

I have a M.A. in special education and am currently pursuing a Master's certificate in ABA. I am certified Pre-K - 12th grade, but I also teach adult education for a local university, so I have experience with older students as well. I lived overseas when I was married and worked as a substitute for the Dodds schools in Schweinfurt and Bad Kissingen Germany, so I am familiar with living and working overseas. I have also lived in Korea. My continuing education focus has been primarily with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Behavior disorders, but I have a diverse group of learners in my class with multiple disabilities. I am working on a federal resume, but am having trouble finding a job description for the teaching positions so that I can tailor my resume to that specific listing. Those only seem to be available to people who are already in the system. SO...what can I expect? What suggestions might you offer? Is there a critical shortage area for special education in Dodds like there is most other places?
hahaPS. The only shortage area I have seen recently was when a school attempted to hire a VI/LIMM combo and there was only one qualified person in the system and they turned down the job (so it went unfilled).
What is the deal with Guam Is Guam considered overseas Do you get the same benefits as overseas is it a good place to be what are the schools like what about health care PX commissary etc.
I have generally heard positive things about the facilities available on Guam with the stipulation that obviously you have fewer options for everything given the nature of being isolated on an island. Basically, if you are up for an island life and are fairly self-contained and/or love the outdoors, water sports etc then it could be a good place for you.
hahaIt does vary wildly from location to location obviously. But in general if someone is open to many possibilities (e.g. supply person, working at the Bowling Alley, commissary, subbing, teaching English, etc)) and really commits to it they will find something which can eventually turn into something meaningful, managerial, etc.
hahaNo. Probably something that sounded tough during the election but that he has no intention of actually doing (like lock her up). Even if he did really want to, I don't see Congress actually doing it.
