When teaching jobs are posted in usajobs, is it because they couldnt hire anyone eas first or is it because they want to give internal employees first dibs? Im trying to land either a math/business/biology job there.

haha Usually, it seems like they are just trying to drum up more applicants for EAS and/or alert potential local overseas candidates (since many positions stipulate that the applicant must already be in the commuting area). And sometimes, they already know who they are going to hire but need to fulfill the requirement to post the position.

ecd5 The USA Jobs postings that I've seen always link to the EAS application unless it's for an ISS or admin position.

Also, all openings must be advertised locally before opening up to other applicants (DoDEA and non-DoDEA).

Guam High School

Any info or insight into Guam HS. I'm considering taking an interview. I'm a bit worried about the salary & not receiving LQA with cost of living currently sky rocketing everywhere. But to be in the beauty of the pacific!

haha No personal experience. My understanding is that the salary scale is higher than DoDEA overseas and you do get some type COLA or Post Allowance, which offsets the cost of rent to some extent. So, might be worth following up on.

haha The pay is the same in S. Korea as in Japan (and most every other overseas location). Post Allowance will vary by location but Korea will generally be a little less than Japan. Does anyone have insights into Patch MS or more generally USAG Stuttgart, Germany? Is it possible to reside within walking distance? Can teachers reside on base? The base website states that certain dog breeds are not allowed - I suspect that the German Shepherd Dog is allowed - right? Thank you!

Im a little confused about the current situation where dodea teachers cant transfer to another location. My understanding is that dodea does not currently have transfer rounds but existing dodea teachers may apply to work at a new location and go through the entire onboarding process just like an external candidate. ATeacher No, that is incorrect. DoDDS teachers may only apply to DDESS locations, not other DoDDS locations. They are seperate entities under the DoDEA umbrella and operate under different contracts.

haha Agree. The only exceptions would generally be when hard to fill internal positions are announced via email and/or when in district/complex positions are made available to internal applicants (or applying for admin/ISS positions).

I'm thinking of accepting a job in Kaiserlautern but I have a graduating daughter who wants to attend college. Are there opportunities on base that aren't online for DOD civilians?

dodea transfers

How rare/common is it for dodea teachers to accept a position in the americas then transfer to dodea asia?

ecd5 Very common. It's basically the only way to move to another location unless you accept a promotion. Also, DDESS teachers have priority over non-DoDEA applicants.

haha Haven't really heard much about excessed teachers being placed, but I do know of new teachers being recruited stateside for certain positions, so I would assume most have been placed already (but you never know, do you?).

So I received a phone call yesterday about a phone interview for a position but i wasn't alerted by the EAS that I had even been refered has this happened to anyone else?

Jaubrey23 Yes! Though I am worried, as the post is for a current opening and I am "outside the gate" there was a concern that I wouldn't be on boarded in time for this school year. But I did my best and will keep a good thought
