In my experience, it can work. However, only being in a school one day a week will leave you feeling a disconnect between the culture of the building and your own services. And you will also find that there are added difficulties if you end up missing a day and your services are not received. How will you compensate for frequent Fridays or Mondays off (as an example) due to the school calendar.
Also, advocating for the twice exceptional or low achieving gifted student is much more difficult when you see them and their teacher only once a week. This is what would be concerned about as a parent and a teacher.
It's been done, but it isn't typically what is best for students.
