We have a gifted son who is currently in 4th grade. He was one grade accelerated in his previous Texas virtual public school and was also allowed to work at his own pace in math and language Arts/Literature. He completed 3rd & 4th grade math last year and within the first 2 months completed 40% of 5th grade. The previous school did an achievement test and found that he was working on a 6th/7th grade level in math and had decided to move him to Pre-Algebra to keep him engaged and challenged. But we had to put him into a local public school and they put him into all 4th grade classes. At first it was all fine but he has been asking for challenging material in math and was told he couldn't have it and that he had to stay at the same pace as the other kids.

We have been advocating for him. The Asst. Superintendent had him take the 5th grade Math TAKS released test and he scored an 84% on it. The Asst. Superintendent was very impressed and said that the district really doesn't ...See More
I used to teach in my home I used to teach children in my home. If you can't keep him home yourself is there anyone else who could be with him during the day and monitor his work on the virtual school? A grandparent, aunt, uncle, friend who is a SAH parent, or even a small in-home daycare?
