Should you include the questions given under "Writing about Planning" or "What to Include in Your Analysis and Reflection" in your writing about Component 3? My mentor says I should but I really don't have room!
I did not include them on my component two. I did however try to start the beginning sentences of the paragraphs by answering the question so readers would know which question I was addressing - if that makes!
I have my formative, but am using the district benchmark as summative. No pictures of test questions are available, nor can they be shared. How do I discuss the test in the 2 pages?

premierteachSorry, that posted without my comment. Can you discuss the data that was a result of the benchmark and describe it in detail? Give a percentage of how many students achieved the goal you set instructionally? Go back to the instructions and look specifically for how to include this in this situation. I'm interested in what you find out.

1)Culminating Assessment - would I just include the test I gave? If the font was in smaller than what NB wants for say our Written Commentary is that acceptable as it's our assessment. It's still viewable and I did scrunch questions together (that wasn't how I had it formatted) but if I bump it to 11 font it will be too many pages. Also it indicates "Culminating assessment (no more than 2 pages) that shows how you differentiated the assessment (can be an instrument or a description of any alternative means of assessment)". Do I describe how I differentiated it here or in my written commentary. It's only 2 pages allowed and really doesn't give much more detail. Should I just write about how I differentiated for my EL student here and then provide some example type of questions that I used for that assessment?
2)Instructional activities materials. It indicates I need 3 instructional activities and related materials (no more than 9). If I give the lab instructions for this should I also provide the lab rubric. If I do (without reformatting it) it won't fit on the required pages....so should I remove some of the instructions to fit in the rubric? Also it indicates "Three instructional activities and related instructional materials (no more than 9 pages combined). At least one of the activities must show connections to technology. A description of how you addressed the diversity of your students should be included." Where do I put in how I addressed diversity (again fitting within the page limit) and how I address technology. Most of these activities utilized lab equipment and I used a smart board to give notes and background info and they used my web site for information and to research but this can't be seen necessarily in the materials info...so how/where do I put that?
3)"Two student work samples for each instructional activity (no more than 15
pages combined). Include any written feedback you provided to the student and a description of how you differentiated instruction." Can the written feedback be on their sample and again where do I indicate how I differentiated instruction? The lab report for one of the samples far exceeds what will be allowed, so do I just take parts of the samples and include just those parts, or can I reformat them? I also have a part of an activity they turned in where they created a "puzzle" of sorts and it will be difficult to scan. Could I take a picture of it and then just post that into a word doc?
Note: In the commentary there are prompts where I had to answer "how I differentiated instruction/assessment" and "how I incorporated tech" would this just be where I address those type of questions.
I'm finding it really hard with all that they have to get things into the max number of pages and show this learning. If you made it this far THANK YOU for your help!
I removed all the answer spaces for my culminating assessment to make it shorter and removed a few questions so it fit the length requirement.
My differentiation was allowing students to use blank paper to answer their questions if they need more space than I provide. That's the only modification I make on my assessments since I have no IEP students.
Did you remove all the extra space on your instructional activities?
I'm hoping some one who knows more will help out. I looking forward to answers on your questions too.

...See MoreHi I have a couple questions and hopefully someone can clarify. I am trying to certify in literacy early middle
1. On component 3 I used a leveled reader, when we submit evidence of what we used, do I just list the name of the leveled reader or actually provide a page of it, the leveled reader is way to long to add the whole book.
2. In component 4 we are to use a group of students and look at the data, can this be the same group I videoed in component 3?
In my ENS directions they specify that the group can be the same but that the lessons cannot. Component 3 says: "If you feature individual students in this entry, they cannot be the same INDIVIDUALS featured in other portfolio components. However, students featured in other entries may be included in a class or group video setting for Component 3"
I take this to mean they can be in a whole class video, but probably not a small group if you have featured them specifically in another video. And they may be part of your group for 4 and still be videoed for 3. It seems to me like they don't want you to feature the same student in Comp 2, Comp 3 and then focus just on them for Comp 4 (not that that is even really possible).
Does that make sense? I've only had one cup of coffee so I could just be babbling...

Yes I understand what your saying, I used a different student entirely for component 2, he will not be featured for anything in component 3 because he is in a different grade level. I did use a student featured in my group video for component 3 in an individual student video because I had to show a different type of group and I do not work with large groups of students, but I believe that is ok. For component 4 I have data from a 4th grade group I may just use that to be on the safe side and as not to over feature any one grade level. Thanks for your help

I think. I'm really not sure. I sure miss the Blue Box!

If so, any suggestions on how to do so?
If you look at your submission quick guide it will tell you exactly how many files you need. You can merge document easily in word and then upload too. I'm confused about the Component 1 part here... which component is this for?
I know my professional need and student need don't have to be the same as the unit/assessment I'm writing about. But it asks to use assessments for the student need. I'm confused about this....

I was just wondering if it's safe to use a summative assessment other than a test. I am a school counselor, and I don't give grades or anything like that so most of my unit work would conclude with a group project or summative type activity. Is that ok as long as its measurable? Or is it safer to go with an actual test?
Summative is a summative assessment of learning and there is nothing that says it needs to be a test. I think as long as your learning objectives are clear and you can show measurable growth it really doesn't matter what format the summative is in. Just my 2 cents.
