These are the components I'm > working on this year. I received a 3.0 on C3, I figured out the way to write for this, I think. So I have C1:2,2,2,2.23; C2: 1.25; C3:3.0. According to the calculator, I have a combined score of 1.917, even if I score a 2 on the 4th component, my average should be high enough. I agree with biophysteach, I don't see anywhere where an exact needed score is stated at this time. Now I have the dilemma of deciding whether to shuck out $475 dollars to retake C2 and an additional $475 to take C4, or just hope that once these weighted scores are fixed in stone, that I will be alright with what I have. This whole process is beginning to sound and feel more like a big racket!!!
What WorksYes. It's called Successful Strategies for Pursuing National Board Certification; Version 3.0, Components 1 and 2. The sequel for Components 3 and 4 are available this week - both are on amazon.

If I can score a 3 on C4 then it looks like my total weighted score is 2.67. If I were to retake C1, E1 and get a 3 my weighted score would be 2.74.
Do I just need to suck it up and retake C3? I was expecting the 2 as I didn't put the time into C3 that I needed to.
When they say the cut score will be released late 2017 does this mean I'll know what I need to achieve NB status at the same time that I receive my C4 score?
How heavily weighted is C4 traditionally? If 2.75 is likely to be the cut off, I would need a 2.4- assuming everything is equally weighted-which I don't believe it will be. My question is will C4 be a major component or not?

That being said, we obviously don't know the total score we are shooting for.

I had a common goal for both the expository and narrative pieces which was... "My overall writing goal was for each student to correctly use the writing process to score an 80&37; or higher on both the expository and narrative writing rubrics."
I plan on getting into the specific concepts that were assessed during the "instructional objectives" section, but I'm concerned this goal is too vague.
So I'm asking... Do I need to explain the different rubrics here, or is the goal I have enough for this section?
You've written a goal, that if the students learn the objectives (skills) could be obtained - so in that respect this goal might work.
However...something to think about. Could you reword this so as to contain a "big idea" about writing ... some- thing you want kids to understand...but without the &37; element? This goal could work for both types of writing. Think along the lines of...
GOAL: The students will understand that writing is a way to communicate...; or Students will understand that the writing process is a way to ___.
Just some ideas to deepen your thinking a bit.
