My scores went down this year and I don't have a clue who is correcting these assessments and entries. I would like to get some guidance of what to do?

Hello Everyone. Is anyone else out there doing Orchestra EA/YA? I would sure love to have a mini-cohort as I have so many content-specific questions. I'm just starting the process. Thank you! Audrey
I did this process from 2008-2011 and fell short 6 points. I started the process again in 2013 and CERTIFIED today. I needed 10 points and got 43. I did 5 retakes and Achieved on the 6th try. I am so happy that I didn't quit!

I got an email today that said to prepare for score release - there is no date set yet for release of scores.
I am curious where on my profile the scores will be? Currently, there doesn't look like there is a place for the scores? I started the process last year (2015-16).
An advanced candidate is someone who is finishing the OLD process - the one in place before you became a candidate. As you know, all candidates get 3 attempts at certification, and this set of scores represents those candidates' final opportunity to certify. The numbers getting scores today will be small compared to the numbers that will be released later.
You are a first-time candidate, working in the new process. I believe you got an email recently saying that your scores would be released "soon". Of course we don't know just when that date is yet, but hopefully before the Dec. 31 deadline. You will get another email at some point telling you the exact date.
So, you're not crazy...hope this clarifies the situation for you.

Are component scores released individually, or will I only get one score report when I finish the whole process? I just started in the spring with component 1, and I'm wondering if I'll get that score this year, or if I'll have to wait until I've completed all of them.
On 11/05/16, English Teacher wrote: > Are component scores release...See MoreGood question! If you did only Component 1, that is the only score you'll get. Candidates who did more than one component will get scores for all the components they worked on. You don't have to wait until all components are completed to get your scores. Hope that helps.

Bobbie Faulkner's other NB books, written for the old process, were excellent. So there's every reason to believe these will be too. I am a CSP and have recommended this series to my candidates. As far as I can tell, these are the ONLY books available that apply to the new process all of you are doing.
Just thought I'd pass this on for those of you who like to have a 24/7 resource.

"In 2014 the National Board began revising and streamlining the National Board Certification Process. This new 3.0 version of the WHAT WORKS! series reflects the revisions to Components 3 and 4. WHAT WORKS! Successful Strategies for Pursuing National Board Certification Version 3.0, Components 3 and 4 includes dozens of strategies to guide candidates to successful certification. The chapters draw a roadmap showing how to provide evidence of the National Board Standards. There are tips for understanding the prompts, making videos, and for writing clearly, consistently, and convincingly in the “National Board Style”."
Just a heads up and some friendly advice that will help you get quicker, more productive responses to your questions.
ALWAYS INCLUDE THE NAME OF YOUR CERTIFICATE AREA and the SPECIFIC COMPONENT YOU'RE ASKING ABOUT.
Many times, we have to ask for this information before we can respond. Not all certificates and components have the same set of instructions, so knowing that info is super important.
In the written commentary part planning and teaching analysis of component 2, do we inlcude student A and student B for both the expository and narrative writings all together or do we seperate them?
The directions say to have a section for each type of writing, then write about both students within each section. So when you write about the Expository, you write about Student A and Student B. When you write about the Narrative, you write about Student A and Student B.
I've known candidates use another format where they write about Student A: Expository and Narrative, then Student B, Expository and Narrative.
In the end, I'm not sure it matters as long as all the information is there, but I prefer to follow the formatting example the NB gives on page 3 of your Component 2 instructions.
Good Luck!

I am excited about being able to increase the quality of the audio for students as none of the devices I have used so far have been able to do this adequately.
For me, specifically, I am doing a math lesson and a science lesson. Does each video need to have multiple instructional formats or does each video need one but different from each other? (Ex: Math - whole group; Science - small group)
I teach math whole group on the rug (1st grade). As I teach, I can work one-on-one with students who aren't getting it or who are making mistakes. BUT they are still sitting in a large group. Does that count as multiple instructional formats? Later in my video, I do have 2 students at a separate table so that would count as small group, but I may not have time in the 10-15 minute allowance to show both settings.
My science lesson is also whole group, but it is very hands-on so I am roaming about helping individual students grasp the objective. I realize my writing will reflect my instructional formats and I will be able to explain my process and teaching, but I would like some feedback.
