I am teaching at a new school (this is my 1st yr there) A tenured, older teacher seeks every and any way to identify anything that one of my students does wrong. For instance, kids can run and swear in the hallway If it is one on MY caseload she's all over them WELL now the issue of field trips is coming up and although a kid cannot be excluded without justification, she's doing everything to have 2 of the kids off the trip. She hates them She hates me... UGLY situation,... Please send ideas!!!
I have teachers here who do that. If they complain in private, say "I agree, and we're working on it." If they reprimand me in public, I say "come here please, we can talk in private."
Field trips are something you must plan very carefully. They can't legally exclude the kid from trips, but they can do so anyway and say it was an error. Try talking to the other teachers about their fears and concerns with your kids going on the trip. This should shut them up.

The parents finally won in Georgia and Gov. Perdue signed SB10 - the special ed voucher program into law. Special education in Georgia has been a real problem, hopefully this can help the situation
lost my personal cell-phone in the school building last week. I called the front office, reported a phone was missing and if any were found it may be mine. No students were in attendance that day and no later that 1 hour after leaving the building, I get a call from the Principal who wants me to know that they think they found "what they beleive to be my phone." I asked her to simply turn it off and I would pick it up the following week upon my return to the building...When I went to p/u the phone the following week-I was confronted by my Principal/Asst. Administrator about my text-message logs...Of course, I have nothing to hide but one message involved personal medical information that I had to try and explain to my Superiors...The Principal claimed they came across the information in the text-messages while trying to determine who the phone belonged to...(Hmmm, the questions posed to me at this "impromptu" meeting were at least 100 or so "deep" into my logged messages that I don't ever delete...The Principals claimed they didn't know how to turn off the phone-so it was dead without a battery...
There is the vague synopsis...Now, I need to know how to go about handling this...I contacted my local NEA PRES. HE WAS FURIOUS but needed to check the legal aspects involved with this type of situation...So, while waiting for him to get back to me-I figured I would pose the scenario to others who may have the right input...
Did my Principals violate privacy laws by reading my logged text-messages?? They claimed the phone was submitted to the office by two teachers, (which they didn't identify during the meeting). Should I hire a lawyer and sue? Should I try to "clear the air" with as little "drama" as possible. I think that for a long time now, my Principal has been suspicious of my activity both on-site and off because I am young, popular with the kids, and because they have access to my phone number...I always act with 100% professionalism, I'm married with a 2 year old, but I have been put through an interrogation into my personal life for no reason aside from Administrators invading my "lost" phone...I am so worried about this I'm losing sleep...Help...
Wrong message board-meant to post on advocacy...Sorry for the interruption.

I just finished reading Jonathan Kozol's most recent book. I wish that I had read this book several years ago, when I last returned to college to pursue education. Then, I wish I would have had his backing when it was decided that I didn't have the right stuff & that I might cry in front of children. I have grown up in a predominately white middle- class small town & have traveled the world. I had just traveled to NYC & wrote about that in my personal memoir, which I submitted to a pre-education class, which describes my realization of race differences. It earned me an A+. I had began teaching as a substitute. I would have given my heart & soul, if I was allowed to become a teacher. Then, maybe I just need to stay retired. I hope that not all potential whistle-blowers have their vocations ended as quickly & permanently as mine. I do know myself & my life story. I know my errors & those of others. I may never be a published writer or be able to go back to college, for music this time, but my heart & soul does sing of the truth! I do have a M. S. in Earth Science. Sincerely & best to all, who also share in the truth!
Please consider me as one of your prospective applicant for Math teacher in USA or CANADA. I'm a graduate of BSME and currently pursuing my Doctor of Engineering in Japan. Would be better if you will require me to submit my CV or resume for futher details. Looking forward for your kind response.
I'm trying to understand the whole process of how the whistle blower law works:
If there is a correlation between the harassment and the retaliation, and it can be proven with witnesses and documentation, etc., does one go out andget a lawyer (the union rep. and the regional rep are useless)? How does this work?
If the case is proven, what is the end result? What happens to the person accused of the retaliation and the person filing the claim?
My childrens elementary PE coach tells them quite often to "shutup" and to quit acting like babies and/or idiots. To say the least, administration has not done anything about this. It doesn't seem to be of importance.
Who or what organization can I contact to get help with this issue? If possible, I would like to remain anonymous to prevent future retaliation. I know how the system works, as I'm sure we all do!
