I am in the process of setting up a classroom to teach hand build clay to adult blind and visually impaired students. I am looking for new ideas to help teach this class. Georgia
I've been using these picture vocabulary cards with my adult education students, and they are learning them so well, because of the pictures. I've used them with high schoolers, middle schoolers, and adults with the same great success. Check out this site: [link removed]
i will start teaching Adult Basic Education next week - when i interviewed they told me there was a workbook that the students would use. lo and behold, when i called the bookstore today, i was told there is no book and it was up to me to figure out what to teach - i taught this class a couple of years ago, so i can come up with curriculum, BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A WORKBOOK THAT MIGHT BE APPROPRIATE FOR THIS CLASS? the bookstore lady told me she could order books if i wanted her to.
There is a great website that includes a lot of worksheets. If you google Florida Adult Basic Education, I think it will come up.

Does anyone know of such curricula? I tutor Somali Bantu who need simple addition, subtraction, and enough division to understand unit pricing. They know names for numbers and how to write them. Any suggestions appreciated.-- Barbara
Hi, I have been posting on the sped teachers chatboard. I teach elem sped, and most of my students have literacy issues. I just found out that I will be presenting a session about my decoding strategy at the NAACE conference in November.
In 1979, an adult who had never been successful with reading showed me how she needed me to teach her to decode and read. So, together we developed an inexpensive, concrete, and multi-sensory decoding method. As I helped additional students improve in reading, I developed a book to teach the method. HEARING, SAYING, WRITING, SEEING, AND READING THE SOUNDS OF WORDS teaches students to move from the written spelling of words to discover the "sound spelling." Decoding using the vowel-consonant patterns and sounds for the most frequently used "sight words" are demonstrated.
I hope I will meet some of you in Pittsburg in November!
