It was 5 months out of the Applecare warranty. So I had to pony up $300 to get it repaired, since there is no other known issue. It's a good thing I was working on it at the time. Imagine if it had been left on while everyone was sleeping. The Apple repairman said it's working fine now but of course they won't let me have the defective part back. I told them since I paid for it out of my own pocket, then I should get it back but the fine print in the repair contract says the part has to go back to Apple for "analysis."

However, occasionally the G5 would make a noise like it was spinning a drive and the fans would kick in like crazy. It only happened once in a while but it did that from the very beginning. My hard drive failed within the first year of use and had to be replaced.
Apparently it's only a safety issue if many of the G5s of that generation and production lot have the same thing occur. I haven't seen any others post anything on the net similar to mine, but I am going to keep an eye out. It could be a fluke or it could be that mine is just the first to do it. Luckily I was using it at the time and knew what to do. I shudder to think what would have happened if the computer had been left on with no one to watch it.

At present, that is the only computer I can use when home. I uploaded a bunch of photos I took while camping with almost no trouble. Actually, I pulled them off into folders because iPhoto seems to be full or near capacity and I did not want the computer to shut down like my newer one did which I still haven't solved the problem for.
I have a blog and used to have minimal problems uploading photos to it BUT now I get a couple photos uploaded and then the computer shuts completely off in the middle of uploading. It just clicks off. WHY?
Should I run the original CD's for OS 10 x (forget the exact decimals after the 10. . . and replace everything? The old computer does not have Tiger or the new one (Leopard, I think) Will I lose the photos I have on there that are not backed up with a CD yet? OR do I just need to take it to Portland for repair at an Apple store? Easier said than doen since I have to take a bus to get there.
I just spent 5 days at Mt. Rainier and I wanted to use some of my photos on my blog but I guess it is impossible on my computers unless soemone has a miracle solution.
What would I need to run a CD of photos on a PC computer like we have in the community room? Is that possible? The two computers there are shared and I don't want to downlaod anything to it. I presumed that I could put in a CD and get the photo uploaded to blogger. Can I? Or is there an attachment I could hook on to the PC that would allow me to access my photos? Can I load my camera on there and upload photos to my blog from that?
I just don't know what is compatible on a public computer like if you were using one in the library. Thanks!
Have you recently run Disk Utlity, Disk First aid, repair permissions, and verify disk?
I you can boot the troublesome machine into target mode (hold down T at startup) and have a Firewire cable to connect the two macs together you can use the other ones DU DFA to repair the drive if it's slightly damaged.

I must have downloaded some upgrade recently - don't know what - because my downloaded pdfs have a different look and I cannot print them anymore. I can save them to my desk top and print from there. No fun at all. What happened?

I am not certain what's going on from your description but I'll take a guess. When the address book is open there should be two icons underneath the coloured, yellow, green dots at the top left. Is the rightmost icon selected? Try clicking on the left one if it is.
I am interested in getting Ipod Touches for my students. However I would like to find a school close by that is currently using them in the classrooms already. I live in Utah. Anyone know schools that have them? Thanks!
Another thing, my daughters have been...See MoreTo be honest, I would save your money. Use common sense when working with files on the outside and you should be ok. I have a MBP and have not had anything even remotely resembling a virus or Trojan try to attack. On my Vista box I use Windows Live One Care, and it is always kicking in to do its thing.
Another thing, my daughters have been using their Intel iMac for going on 2 years and they have never been infected. If anyone could do it it would be some 13, 16, 18 year-olds. The worse that ever happens is when they run certain games it tends to create some sluggishness.
I have heard such wicked stories about Norton and what it tends to do with various systems.
I had my intern class ...See MoreI have just finished installing 33 brand new 20" iMac's. They have 4Gb RAM, 2.66 MHz CPU, 320 Gb HD. Will be dual boot with XP Pro using Virtual Machineso we can do the game design. Each machine will be loaded with: Snow Leopard (upgrade mirror on Friday), CS3, Final Cut Pro, Studio Logic Pro, iWorks, MS Office, etc.
I had my intern class set them up. It was a Christmas in August.
A sweet lab indeed. I am happy. I think I can hang in there for 4 more years until I retire.

Today’s world is inundated with technology. Students of this generation zip and zoom through the World Wide Web. They have embraced a new era, The Digital Age. Students of this new era have been dubbed the “Digital Kids” and they rule the classroom. ([link removed].
Technology is constantly changing. The W.W.W. has now evolved into “Web 2.0” and is the second wave of the World Wide Web. It is an improved, enhanced, and evolved generation of internet capability. The improvement of design and communication is its foundation. It hosts the inter-twining and connectivity of communities through web base applications: video, blogs, wiki, and various social networking sites. Users do not merely retrieve information, but expound and expand upon given info. Users become active participants through the web. It is rich integration of data and the daily routines of modern life. If technology is an active participant in daily routine, then “why not in the classroom?” This is an issue of utmost concern.
