What is wrong...See MoreI have a Mac Powerbook G4. I have had it several years and today when I opened it, it woke up briefly (a few seconds) and then went black. Each time I press a key, it tries to wake up, but does the same thing again.
I turned it off using the power button and then tried to start it again, but the same thing happens.
What is wrong with my old faithful laptop? Thanks so much!

The advantages of iPads is the different applications (apps) that can be used in the classroom, as well as portability. iPads are easy to store and transport. Also, many apps allow for free drill/practice applications, while you would have to purchase different software on the laptops. A benefit of laptops is for students to practice keyboarding skills. All in all, it really depends on the purpose or objectives you are seeking to acheive or master through the technology. What are your main goals regarding the use of technology in your classroom? That might help you make a final decision.

Our students are enjoying using the iPads with Merit and we are starting to see some improvement with their use of the English language.

I've been using iPhoto to save pics from my digital camera and and then emailing to the church secretary for her to use in newsletters. She has asked me to send them as a jpg file. Can I do that....if so, can someone give me some directions ?

Just as traffic, liquor and other laws constrain impulsive destructive behavior of adults, schools need clear law/policy students and parents must uphold.
Sadly, as far as most school districts go, policy and rules look effective on paper, but their enforcement is not consistent.
Young people will be off task as often as allowed.
Good Luck,

I think they can be helpful or they can be distracting. It depends on how they're used. I read a great report from Carnegie Mellon about laptop use (and importantly, ownership) in class here: [link removed]
I imagine iPads are the same way. Of course, many classes can be conducted productively in computer labs. I think it all comes down to purpose and whether the technology suits the purpose

Thanks fo...See MoreMy colleague and I are thinking about creating a program over the weekend to help our students write better essays. Before we try to do this, I was curious:
1) What tools do you use to help students write better essays?
2) If you could create (magically) a tool to help students write better, what would it do?
Good Luck
