I am trying to help a friend with a graphic for her Christmas newsletter. She decided to send a change of address as her newsletter so the letter will be the same for everyone on her list.
OK, she wants a Christmas graphic header and I have found a neat Poinsettia to use BUT I don't know how to get it to her computer. I don't have a memory stick and if I did, i don't know if it works between a imac and a PC.
When I share graphics or photos, besides attaching and downloading, I sometimes just drag from desktop to email AND then the graphic is dragged to that person's desktop to use as what they wish on their project by repeating the drag and drop. OK so maybe there is a different way to do it on an imac but I haven't learned. Control and click on a little blue box box does it sometimes for some things. That's not what I need to do.
Please tell me how to do it on this friend's PC. I sent the two graphics to her embedded in email. Now what? I know their Windows is somewhat like our macs --big improvement over those C and D drives. . . but I have just a little experience with PCs and don't know how to do this with a graphic. I want to put the graphic I sent her in an email in a WORD document so she can write her Christmas letter and print them off -- not with email.
Thanks for any help you can give me. I will check back tomorrow night as I have three things happening all day tomorrow. I hope someone can help with my problem. THANKS!
Try emailing the graphics as attachements if the pasting in email doesn't fly.
If you format your memory stick as DOS the PC will "read" it. If you format it as anything else it will not.
The drag and drop part will be similar or your friend could "insert image file" and then browse to the image on the stick.
Good Luck N.

I will also try making it into a gif . . . we'll see. Tomorrow's the day.

That sounds like the icon of a web page icon. It was probably a shortcut to the apple support page or something like that. It's not a terribly important thing since you never knew what it did. You can easily replace it if you go to the Apple site and drag the favicon (the little picture in the address bar) into your Dock. Just drag it out of the Dock to make it go away. That's what I did with that icon years ago...poof it's gone :-)

I'm beginning to explore Whiteboards for my district. Since we are a MAC district, and I've only seen the boards used on PCs, any info you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Are they easy to use? Compatible with Macs? Info and tips?
If you are talking about a SMARTboard, they are compatible with both Mac and PC. I love mine and I have a Mac.

I received a teacher-created windows media file from a colleage. I can hear the music but I cannot see the images that she has included; only a blank screen. I'm on a macbook pro. I have quicktime and flip for mac but haven't had success viewing the file. Any suggestions?

That's odd since wmv files should play in QuickTime using Flip4Mac. I wonder if the teacher used some odd setting and thus made it viewable only to those with Windows. I wish I knew why people did this.....
At any rate, all I can suggest is: 1) Is your Flip4Mac up to date?, 2) Have you tried another player such as VLC? (VLC is a useful tool since it play a myriad of video formats), 3) Install the Perian plugin for Quicktime...just because it works so well for so many formats. 4) Ask the teacher to send it to you in a different format. 5) Try viewing it on a Windows computer, maybe the trouble isn't with your machine but with her file...does the same thing happen to other Windows users?
Those are off the top of my head...as I said it should work so I am leaning towards #5.
Greg, Thanks for your time and all of your info! I'm going to try your suggestions and let you know what works! If you have Leopard or have worked with it, what do you think of it? I am not sure I want to change from Tiger. Still, I see all the hype on the Apple site and it looks pretty cool but at the same time, some people have reported some problems. On the other hand, I have seen people report all kinds of problems with the various OS' that I have never had. Anyway … please give me your opinion.
It's sound really good and I am getting tempted. The only thing is that I heard you can't run classic apps anymore on the Leopard. I can still do it in Tiger.

Permissions repair is long, and reports errors that apple tells you to ignore when you contact them. (What's up with that? - your own app misdiagnoses your own system??).
Time machine is funky, It is recommended that large files such as a didk image or Parallels Desktop virtual machine disk images be excepted from Time Machine and backed up some other way! (so you need TWO backup strategies)

I want to thank all the regulars here for their participation and support. I have learned a lot and also enjoyed reading your replies and appreciate you very much.
ONe of our lab folks asked me about how to lock or restrict access on OSX and X.2. I have directions for the "Parental controls" for X.4 but nothing earlier. These are machines in Kinder classrooms. Things are getting renamed and deleted, so the lab person would like to limit access. Any ideas? Thanks!
Another (better) way is to use OS X server with user accounts that have more "fine" settings. You can make individual, classroom or hardware groups with specific permissions for each.

Recently I have had trouble playing quicktime files on some of the lab computers running Tiger 10.4 . The message directs me to a download site, but I am not sure what component I am missing. I'd appreciate suggestions on what component I am missing.
A message box comes up that says that some quicktime components are missing. I click on 'continue' and get to this web page: [link removed].

When trying to save or print a microsoft document (or at times appleworks) the program unexpectedly quits. This happens regularly. The computers are running OS 10.3.9. Any thoughts?
I believe 256 We are not buying memory since we are using Tiger for most of the building and these are running Jaguar. Is there anyway to delete programs rather than add the memory Thanks > How much memory do they have? > > > On 1/14/08, Carol wrote: >> When trying to save or print a microsoft document (or at >> times appleworks) the program unexpectedly quits. First Try deleting the Microsoft and Appleworks .Prefs. files.
A well known corrupted font is "Bauhaus 93". if you see that font delete it.
If that doesn't work try opening the FontBook application. Do any of the fonts listed in the center panel have a bullet (round dot) after the name? If so, you have duplicate fonts installed and you should turn all but one of them off, keeping the newest one.
To determine the newest one, you'll have to click on the triangle to the left of each font family with duplicates. Hover your mouse over each of the font files and make a note of the version number that comes up in the little yellow "tool-tip" window. Select the ones with the highest version numbers and choose "Resolve Duplicates" from FontBook's "Edit" menu.
Good Luck, N.

I am a high school computer technology coach. Each teachers technology needs are different based on what core subject they teach. But I think all students can benefit from using an Interactive White Board in all their classrooms. With an Interactive White Board the teacher can engage the students more by changing their teacher driven lectures into student-centered learning. So if money was an issue, I would take an Interactive White Board over a cart of laptops!

I would love a projector, and a interactive white board would be great too. I'd be thrilled right now with a printer, ink, and paper!! O.K. - if I'm dreaming, please make it a color copier. Thanks I'll be watching for the delievery :)
