How about a critique where students place their work out to discuss what is going right/ wrong and how they are meeting the criteria. This way students can judge themselves on how well they are doing and they can work harder if they are behind. You can break the project into sections and give them due dates if you feel like you have no control. It is hard when students work at different paces. You don't want them to get bored so make sure it is a subject they enjoy. Not sure what the project is exactly but another thing is to show a new technique or tip at the beginning of class to get them motivated. > > >
Hello I just found out I am pregnant and I teach a ceramics class. Is there anything I should be aware of, aside from toxic glazes and such? I have a kiln with a great ventilation system. ant suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

The clay is safe. When I was pregnant I threw out any lead based toxic glazes that were there long before I arrived. As long as the kiln is well ventilated you should be fine. Congrats!
Hello, My AP asked the Specials teachers to come up with an incentive for students to improve their behavior during specials. She suggested a monthly get-together with all the well behaved kids but I don't want to lose any time with any of my students. Any ideas? Thanks!

In our elementary school teachers bring a clipboard with a behavior chart on it for Specials to mark students with a check mark for behavior problems. Lately I have been marking the students who seem to always follow directions with a star instead. When lining up at the end of class my "star" kids get a sticker or a tootsie roll. This has definitely improved all class's behaviors!
I have not been with little ones in so long...See MoreIdeas for a demo lesson for a kindergarten class? I was thinking a Rousseau lesson, drawing an animal, cutting leaves etc. and gluing on, or reading the book, Is a Box just a Box, and doing a 3d project with jewelry boxes and letting them glue, tape to create whatever they wanted with the boxes.
I have not been with little ones in so long, I am a bit nervous to go over their heads yet want to stay on level with their grade level.

Thanks, I was afraid that basic shapes was to basic, maybe you are right. I wanted to clarify what my idea was. I was going to use cardboard/dollar store jewelry boxes and have them create something out of them. Example, a car, tree, etc. Using A box can be many things.

Does anyone have suggestions for ceiling spot lighting for drawing and painting? I have a high ceiling and am shopping for cost effective track lighting to illuminate 6 work tables so students can better identify highlights and shadows on their still life.
