I'm in a very similar predicament this year. I'm teaching art for the first year and it is part-time which means I only teach in the mornings (9:00-11:40 back to back for 40 minute sessions). I have 13 classes total-2 of each grade except for 3 kindergarten classes. My first grade, second grade, and one fourth grade class I will see twice a week. Actually, right now I am trying to figure out what to have my second graders that I saw yesterday do in art class tomorrow. I am going to use some of this advice I saw as replies to your initial post. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your school year!
HEY everybody I am a K-12 art teacher and I am hoping to get some feedback on the new framworks. What do you think and how are you using them in your classroom.
I've always had a sink in my art room, but now I'm moving to a room without water. Please give me your best procedures for coping when you have to carry it in in buckets. Thank you!

Thanks. I'll look those up. It will have to be something like that for this year due to funds. Thanks for taking time to help with an idea.
I have a big bucket of clean water I will fill up in the morning, and an empty bucket to dump dirty water in. Saves a LOT of time. I spend a good chunk of time teaching kiddos how to use brushes and clean up. It goes pretty smoothly. I'm a hummingbird around the room to make sure everything is going smoothly, and I also have table captains and helpers who do different jobs. Baby wipes and a wall mounted hand sanitizer unit help a lot with cleanup.
It is definitely something that will take getting used to, but it's doable. Good luck!!

I am scheduled to take this test in July and am very nervous. Even tho I have an MFA, it is in Film and I'm worried about other art subjects on the test. It's so ironic because I've taken academic cert tests before in another state to be a sub and always do well - but this is my first time taking an arts-based test. There is so little info about this test - other than the state- sponsored links - can anyone provide any other info? thanks!
There are many questions on art materials and techniques. Can't study for that. Also art history, perhaps you can read a textbook.
Where I was able to gain points was on the essay. The way it is scored, you have to comment on a painting or drawing or print. The more areas and visuals in the artwork that you comment on, the more you gain points. For instance, I had to comment on a Japanese print. I made sure to mention the outdoors in the print represented the love of nature. The child represented love of heritage. The laundry represented the mother and how she took care of the family. See that's 3 things. The more visuals you mention, the more points you get. I got a perfect score on the essay, a 300. In City College, they had a study session to give us tips.

Do any of you get a stipend for putting on an art show?
Have any of you used a service like Artome to put on an art show rather than hanging it yourself? What was your thoughts/experience with it? Did you use them again after the first time?

So excited to learn I will be getting 12 iPads next year for my 1-6th graders to use!!! What are your favorite apps and activities to do with them??? I am glad to finally have this opportunity
I have asked this before but got no response, so I thought I would try again. Does anyone have a copy of the old TVO series Artscape? I know, it's really old, the mid 80's, but I think my students would get a kick out of seeing them....the videos are old enough to be fashionably retro! Thanks!
