I have to make a sculpture of a space. The idea is having a large clear bowl let a person sit on the edge overviewing new york city. Any ideas of what materials I can use for the person and for the city?
I think the person's face should be a clear mask, of plexiglass? when you look through the person's eyes, you see the skyline of NYC, perhaps a kalidescope or something else?
I'm looking into a career change as an art school teacher. I'm looking for an online art education degree if anyone knows of any? If that's not possible. Would it be better to get a basic teaching degree then go into the field I want? I can only do online studies for now.

On 12/31/16, M...See MoreIn NYS any elementary teacher can teach elementary art. But it's a perk that the principal gives out.
To Qualify in NYS to teach Jr High or HS art, you need 36 college credits of art. In other words, you had to major in art for your Bachelors Degree.
Every state is different. Call your state education dept.

...See MoreMy school institutes a reassessment policy for all tests/art projects. Does anyone do this at their site? Looking for suggestions...thoughts so far...
Reassessment form with self-critique and improvement action plan with a week of project return, plus 1 week project "action plan" implementation extension (max of 2 weeks)
I am really struggling with this "change" since it's not like any other class.
Hello! I am trying to find a diplomatic way to address one of the para's teaching students a different method than what I demonstrated and asked them to do. I have worked with many paras and they are invaluable in the classroom. But how do I establish some boundaries without offending?
You can always try the nice way and say " I know you want to be helpful but I'm the art teacher and I have a reason I'm teaching this specific technique. Would you like me to show you how the students are to learn this"? Or you could be more firm and say "I'm grateful to have your help but teaching art is my job, I'm certified and well studied in it. I'd really appreciate you passing out _____(x, y or z). Or you could be a b^$#$ and say "Please, Mrs. So-and-so, please go ahead and take the class. Please explain how and why we're doing this lesson." I occasionally do that to a student who wont be quiet and continually interrupts. It quiets the class well . . . for a few minutes anyway. Good luck!
I have a student who is particularly struggling with seeing shapes. Even the most basic shapes, she struggles with. I even had her trace shapes to feel the curves and lines.
But she still struggles with seeing shapes. Does anyone have any ideas or exercises I can implement to help her develop shape-seeing?
Rudzani Phaswanaperhaps you should inform your SBST about the learner. maybe the learner might be struggling with dyslexia, dysgraphia or something that needs a specialist to look at
The survey is pretty light and only should take 5 minutes or so.
The past few weeks have been crazy with political discussions (understandably) so it's been a bit hard for me to get participants but If you are an art teacher or know art teachers in your school please pass along my survey, it would be an immense help for me compiling data!
The link for the survey is below:

Thanks so much to anyone who takes a few minutes to participate!
Hello, does anyone know what the best desk setup is for an art room? I have 4 groups of desks now each consisting of 3 desks put together. I was told that a giant U is good also. what is better?
It depends on you and your preferences. The 'U' can work but I find it encourages a lot of talking. I have eight 4'x8' tables and I have to occasionally change the room up and just separate the tables equally in two rows. I've also put two tables together and made four large squares. It's just good to get them off their guard so they don't get complacent.
Does anyone have any good ideas ...See MoreWhat does one do with over twenty-five years of School Arts & Arts & Activities magazines? I stopped subscribing about three years ago & the bookmarked stacks just sit in a large bookcase. They were once my 'bibles' for teaching but then came the Internet. Every summer I'm tempted to toss them.
Does anyone have any good ideas as to what I should do with them?

You could also donate them to a nearby college of fine arts. If up and coming education majors/minors don't use them, the art students will find a way to repurpose them into artwork.
