How many of you teaching high school have a principal who isn't indifferent, but actually supports your program? By support I don't mean that every once in a while they'll say nice things about the art produced, but that they'll look out for you. They will support you in building your program and can be talked to. I'd be interetsed in hearing from teachers of other grade levels as well.

SH I teach elementary school and I have 1 principal and 2 assistant principals. My principal and one of the assistant principals are extremely supportive. They don't visit my room too often, but they have made themselves known to me as strong advocates to the arts.

Jennifer I also teach elementary. I teach at two schools and both principals and assistant principals are very supportive! I suppose I am very fortunate. I am also very grateful for their support. Neither of them are artists nor were ever fine arts teachers, yet they are very complimentary and grateful for all that I do at school and for my students. They r...See More

My experience I taught: HS: Principal did not venture towards the artroom as he was a jockhead more worried about Friday night high school football and the upcoming basketball season. The numerous assistant principals did not care about art except an assistant principal who thought it was a great place to dump bad students.

The numerous assistant principals did not care about art except an assistant principal who thought it was a great place to dump bad students.

MS: Principal thought the artroom should be a prison cell and no noise while the assistant wanted the artroom to be like a recess and lively. So my scores suffered greatly during observations from both administrators who had conflicting ideals about art.
