I just cried my way through My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Piccolt. It was the first book of hers that I have read. I've seen others by her and am wondering what to get next. I'm also a little worried that maybe this was the best one and I have spoiled myself for all the others!

I did read My Sister's Keeper and other Jodi Piccault Books, and I found it very moving. I have not read 19 Minutes , but I just read a synopsis of the book on Amazon. I have read a book about a similar topic called 'We Need to Talk about Kevin', by Lionel Shriver which is an extremely heavy and disturbing book.
Tricialain Truth,Keeping Faith, and Vanishing Act are my favorites. Some of the others I struggled through--her writing is very realistic and eye opening! Look at the next posts about good reads--I put some good thrillers in those posts.
Starting my unit on the Greeks and dragged out my reading list. It's time to do Odysseus again using ...Rosemary Scutcliff... as usual my battle between her Black Ships Before Troy or Odysseus . WANT a good historical writer none better...well grounded in history --well written author Jo S

Santa dropped off this one for me and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have finished the section on Italy. I feel like I am in a state of Italy myself - I told myself I would eat whatever I wanted from Thanksgiving to Christmas and I have enjoyed it! But she is off to India in the next section and I will be too - because it's time to get back to yoga and to healthy eating! I also got Thousand Splendid Suns.
This is my first time posting, but I wanted to say that right before leaving for the break, I finished reading The Tale of Desperaux to my 4th graders and they ALL (even my boys) LOVED this book!!!
Has anyone else ever read it? Did your kids love it as much as mine did? I'd love for others to share their favorite read alouds!!!
I've been teaching for eight years and have a lot of favorite read alouds, but I'm always interested in hearing more!!
I agree. I have read this for 2 year to my third grade students and they enjoy every moment. They are waiting on pins and needles to find out what happens next.
I'm going to start reading The Sister's Grimm (book 1) to my 4th graders when we return on Wednesday. Has anyone ever read it? A friend of mine read it to her class and she said they loved it! Just curious if anyone else has read it to their class and what the reaction was!!
Yep...One in the same! You are soooo super sweet!!! Trying to find a colorful MEAT dish for tomorrow!!

I know some of your names from the Golden Apple board. Being retired, I don't read many children's books anymore (except to the granddaughters), but I am constantly reading just for pleasure. I just read The Long Walk Home by Will North. It was a first novel for him and it was FANTASTIC!!!!! Sure hope he writes more. My favorite authors are James Patterson, Harlan Coben, Mary Kay Andrews, Dorothea Frank...just to name a few. I also have favorite books by authors that I've only read once like Water for Elephants and Shadow of the Wind. Hope I can join in some of the discussions. CB
The more the merrier CB!! I enjoy looking at everyone's recommendations... I will never get to all of them, but I am keeping a list! I've been reading just paperbacks.. I read mostly to relax and find myself in the bed with a book. The one I reading now isn't very good, but I want to know how it turns out. I will go to the library tomorrow to see if I can find some of the recommended titles! Tizzy
Bo, I think it was you who reminded me of the author of the books about the Amish woman "detective". I wanted to read another of her books and I need reminding of her name again....just looking for an easy bedtime book.
