I just started reading Andrew Clement's No Talking to my 4th graders and they LOVE it!!! They're not an overly chatty group to begin with, but they really love the characters in this book and the plot is fantastic!! If you're looking for a fun read aloud, this it a highly recommended one!!

Sitting here at work on the last day of "Read Across America" week at my school. I just finished reading 8 books to my preKs and then presented them each with a book to take home. There are really some cute books out there. The kids are now on their mats in their pajamas having a read-in with there new books. All is quiet and peaceful. I try not to log on here from school ever, but was tempted today. Skyhook is finally over the flu but I cannot seem to get my blood pressure regulated. I have my automatic cuff at school with me today, charting it every two hours and the bottom number is now 97. Some of you know I was in the stroke ICU unit here two weeks ago. My kids are getting a kick out of watching the numbers on the blood pressure cuff go up and down. I just love a peaceful classroom. My kids are enjoying there books so much. One is "10 - Step Guide to Living with Your Monster" by Laura Numeroff and another cute one is "Giraffes Can't Dance" by Giles Andreae. They are so precious. TGIF to all.....Bo
I just started listening to the cd of the "Appeal" by Grisham. I am trying to get my blood pressure down by relaxing in a chair, closing my eyes and listening, and losing myself in books on tape. It is relaxing, especially if you are home alone. So far I like the book. It reminds me of the "Runaway Jury" which is my favorite Grisham book, since it is set in my hometown. Bo

I just finished the Memory Keeper's Daughter. I liked it.

I want to introduce a new series in which I have published the first three books. The series is called "Under My Bed" and it features my characters, the Ohmadillapicklearoos Those Villager Dust Bunnies Under My Bed. I call them the "Oh's" for short. Mr. Oh is a wise and caring dust bunny who comes equipped with his tools of wisdom to help kids work through their problems--most of which ultimately serve to build character.
The series appropriately begins with Wonderfully Made Under My Bed, a story that teaches every child has his or her own unique and innate gift(s); and that, yes, friendship is a wonderful gift, too. Not Afraid Under My Bed focuses on the character trait of acceptance and encourages children to persevere; to push past their natural fears in order to maximize their potential. Grateful Heart Under My Bed reveals the importance of being grateful; gratitude is especially important in our ever-increasing material world. More books focusing on other character traits are forthcoming.
Each story is fun and entertaining; but when supplemented with action guide activities developed exclusively for that story by the very experienced and award-winning educator, Linda Rinn, the story takes on a deeper meaning. The action guides bring the lessons to life through cognitive, emotional and behavioral development. Each activity is designed to help the child engage in critical thinking and self-reflection, make informed choices and act responsibly.
I've done several presentations to children featuring the characters, and they have been very well received. These books are great for the classroom libraries, for the school libraries, and the action guides are great for teachers and counselors. If you are interested, let me know. Many thanks. Janice Bloom
I'm trying to find 3 books ref. to gender identity/deferences. When I locate some it's usually about being a big brother, there is another book about the stork, it goes in detail that I don't think it's for a 4 yrs old, shows both a little boy and girl naked, how they go to the bathroom (that part it's okay), also shows where babies are conceived. The part of going to the bathroom is fine.
I also just finished Grisham's frist non fiction: The Innocent Man. I liked it also. It tended to get tedious in the middle but I hung in there and was glad I did. It is a true story about a murder and trial in OK. bo
I have found several books I am interested in reading: l. Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali - Nonfiction 2. Home a memoir by Jule Andrews 3. Killing Rommel by Steven Pressfield - historical fiction 4. Mudbound by Hillary Jorndan - southern fiction
I looked on the local library site and the only book in that group they have is the one by Julie Andrews... and it is checked out. :-( I'll call and put my name on the waiting list. The last few times I've been to the library, I've really disliked my selections. What possessed me to pick up a Jack Higgins book??? Today I had only a minute and rushed in and grabbed one from the "new book" shelf right beside the checkout desk. I chose Lady Killer by Lisa Scottoline. I hope I made a good choice! The others looked like sappy romances lol. Talk with you later :-) Tizzy
What a great idea!
