I am a second grade teacher, responsible for administering
the ORF portion of Dibels. It bothers me that some seem to
think this is the best thng since sliced bread! It bothers
me when individual progress is not recognized because a
student has not moved out of the intensive group...even
though that student's 'words read per minute' has
drastically increased. It bothers me when I am asked to
lower a child's overall report card reading grade because
his ORF score is categorized as intensive or at risk. He
may read slow, but I have to take all things into
consideration, not just a red line on a bar graph. Right
now, I'm just bothered!
