Our school counselor does an awesome job with this topic. She comes into each classroom once a month, in addition to the one on one she does with students, and discusses different issues that the students may face during the school year. She has some wonderful resources to help with bullying.
I wish I could be more optimistic but I think bullying permeats our culture. It is not just amongst the younger population. It is colleagues. Its on chatboards. Its the way service personnel are treated. Its pretty darn hard to get control of it with the students when it lives everywhere.

judy5caI think a lot of it has to do with the models they're seeing. There are many parents nowadays who bully their own children and, sadly, there are teacher bullies. It's old but true: children learn what they live.

My Elementary School will be using the "Steps to Respect" bullying prevention program next year for the first time (grades 3-5). Has anyone had any experience utilizing this program? I'd appreciate feedback on the program.
country hicksHi. No I haven't heard of it but would be interested if you could share here any information that you receive. I'm heading up a school wide bully prevention committee next year and am interested in new ideas.
After heading the Bullying Committee for two years, I was transfered to another school in the district. I realized that our "Bullying" program should be district wide. We need to educate our children early about bullying. Maybe next year, our school will continue with the program.
It is often said that we teach by example. How we treat or interact with the bullies is an integral part of a bullying program and should be addressed by the administration. It sad to see teachers and or administration bullying the bullies. What are we teaching, and who are the real bullies? If the bullies spoke to us the way that many of us speak to them, they would be suspended from school.
