My small class of 6th IG students were thirsty, as was I. They saw the unopened bottle of cold water I had on a filing cabinet(brought one of two from home frozen, which had thawed during the day).
They told me it would be ok with them if I drank my cold bottled water. Great bunch of caring kids.
I told them that there was no way I would drink water while they had none. I think this made an impression on them, because they knew I meant it.
My solution was to go upstairs to the teacher work/break room(NO CHAIRS, so no lounging) and get cups for my kids. I opened the bottle and we ALL had some cold water to drink.
I taught some absolutely wonderful kids during my career.
I teach second grade and have this sign in my classroom:
"Pull the wagon, don't ride in it."
I am trying to make my kiddos responsible adults. We already have too many people who will not take care of their responsibilities even though they are capable.
I also work on "Do the right thing even when no one is watching".
This cartoon is being shown to students of all ages around the world. It covers how education plays such a pivotal role in their lives. They really enjoy it! [link removed]
Before you start teaching, you might want to read a couple books I wrote for young teachers on classroom management and student engagement. You can find them at: [link removed].
Best of luck to you!
