I used this activity in with my Algebra students and they liked it a lot! You start with a 6 x 6 table, and in each square you write a problem. I used it for factoring, so each square had a trinomial written in it. Students work in groups of 3; two players compete and the third is called the "moderator". I used it for factoring, so each square had a trinomial written in it. Students work in groups of 3; two players compete and the third is called the "moderator". When it's your turn, you roll a pair of dice, which indicates the row and column where your problem is located. You then proceed to solve the problem, and then ask the moderator (which has the correct answers) if it is correct. If so, you get to mark the square. If not, the opposing player has a chance to steal. Play keeps alternating until a player connects four of his squares in a row, diagonal, or column. It is a quick game that serves as a good review for a quiz.
I tink Mathwire.c0m is the best resource for math games
Tic Tac Toe (Read and/or write the word to place the X)
Bingo
Zap (Put words/letters in a bucket along with 10 zap words - student must read to keep. If they pull a 'zap', they have to put (5) back)
Could use to practice math facts, too.

We play circle games, singing games, games with instruments, etc. However, this year I had to branch out in a different manner. Our school's math scores weren't where they needed to be, so it was decided that all teachers would take a small group for math, and that included all related arts teachers. WHAAAATT???? I thought. Math is certainly not my strongest subject, which is I'm not a regular classroom teacher. I figured if I wanted to do that, I would've trained for it. So, to say that I was very unenthused was a major understatement! We were supposed to be "trained"......haha! Everything I taught I learned on my own. I spent a lot of time online looking for games and things to use on my Promethean Board. I played plenty of card games to reinforce addition, subtraction and multiplication. I also found a great website sponsored by Loyola University and found wonderful games there. Talking about stretching yourself in new directions........
I use it all the time and many games can be adapted for other subjects.
Hey guys, I just got a SmartBoard in my classroom this year. Im looking for suggestions/ideas for games that could incorporate the SmartBoard. Please share ideas if you have them. Thanks!
