Christmas Mousepad- Help

Im thinking about having my kindergarten students create their own mousepads as a Christmas project. They will design it on the computer, print it out and glue it to the mouse pad material. Has anyone done this type of project before or know where I can get easy instructions to do this? Is it as simple as it sounds? I've never done this before and was hoping for ideas of what I can use for the mousepad material that is inexpensive.

CTJS I wouldn't recommend this project. With an optical mouse, you don't need a mouse pad. Actually, I know if my optical mouse is on paper, it doesn't work as well as it does on a plain surface.
