The 10 Washington State Patrol troopers who got raises in exchange for dubious diplomas won’t be prosecuted, says Thurston County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jon Tunheim, because it would’ve been difficult to prove that they weren’t merely the victims of bad advice from the agency’s human resources department.

Two of the 10 Washington State Patrol troopers under internal investigation into whether they obtained phony college degrees online have resigned, according to a WSP spokesman.
State Patrol Capt. Jeff DeVere identified the two troopers who resigned in March as James Hotaling, who worked out of Vancouver, and John McMillan, who worked out of Ephrata.
Anyway, my problem is that I am having a very hard ti...See MoreI have a BA in Psychology and am in the alternative education program through my state. I had to first get licensed in MS Social studies (a social science), then I added Elementary endorsement. I have taken Praxis II in Elementary content area, so that would make me highly qualified (?)
Anyway, my problem is that I am having a very hard time finding a position. Even the school district that is known for hiring first year and alternativly certified teachers is laying off teachers. I thought this might be the best time for me to go ahead and complete a Ed program. The alternative program requires that I complete a certain number of education credits before I can get a standard certificate, so I may as well get the degree.
My question is should I get a second BA in Education or should I get an MA? My local university only offers the MA in secondary, but I'm really interested in Elementary. I would like to also get an MA because I am interested in Educational leadership. I would appreciate any advice!
Definely, a Masters! A lot of promotions want a Masters, now. A second BA is a waste of time and money. AIU online has good programs, too; and I am doing a PhD in Adult Ed at Walden. A Masters shows forward motion and progress.
I'm in the same situation - I have a B.S. in biology and a master's in Environmental Science and wanted to teach high school and get my certification through the alternative route. That was the plan, anyway, before the economy got so bad. I'm in Florida and they have only been hiring those teachers that already have full professional certification, and not many of those. So, I decided to go ahead while I am in limbo and get my master of arts in teaching (MAT) in secondary science education at University of South Florida. The local community college had an Educator Prep program, but I couldn't get financial aid for it because it is considered an undergraduate program. I'm glad it didn't work out, because now I will have a masters in teaching and a professional certificate when I am done, which not only should look good on my resume, but also get me in the higher pay bracket. So, I say definitely go for the masters!
Good luck!

Almeda University is a fraudulent Institution that has remain active because of loopholes in the law. The facts remain that they have no legal authority to operate as a University or to grant a legitimate college degree. Technically, as an unlicensed entity Almeda University is illegal in all States.

Anyone else frustrated with trying to get Stafford Loans forgiven!? UGH! Has anyone found any programs that are easier to qualify for Stafford Loans if you teach in a low income school?

I retired this past June and I am now substitute teaching. I will need to renew my WA teaching credential by 2012 so I'm looking for inexpensive (cheap) continuing credits. Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas??
The Texas Administrative code (Chapter 228) suggests ACPs to follow such a rigorous clinical teaching program for candidates without any prior classroom exposure. However, it also states ( rules #228.1 and 228.35), that ACPs should be flexible in accomodating the unique needs and characteristics of its candidates and must allow them to use prior training and experiences toward completing their certification.
I am looking for some answers /insight to this problem that my ACP instructor refuses to address. I look forward to hearing any suggestions/comments that you may have in this regard.
