I am about to start an alternative certification program; I also live in TX. I am debating whether going through my local University so that my credit will go towards a Masters degree, or going through the Region. Have you weighed the pros and cons of other programs?

I am looking for some advice on online education programs in New York state. I am looking to get my masters degree in curriculum and instruction for grades 1-6 and need some assistance or feedback from those of you who might be in the same position. I want to start as soon as possible in an online program. I currently work 3 jobs and wouldn't really have time to sit in class at night or get homework done during the day. The reason I need all 3 jobs is financial reasons and debt so it's not really an option to quit any of these jobs. Are there any cost effective programs offered that are accepted in New York state? I looked into a few but I heard they aren't accepted here in the state. Can anyone please give me some advice on this? Thanks for your help!

I'm currently working in a corporate company planning/creating/delivering training for clients in regards to new technology/computers, etc. After 3 years of working there and being really bored and unfulfilled with the corporate nonsense, I'm thinking about going back to school to get my Master's degree in the Science of Instruction along with my teaching certificate, so I can get into the education field to teach at the elementary level. I already have degrees in Psychology and Marketing and have passed the first two Praxis tests. Just was wondering if it was worth going for my Master's right away or if that makes me less desirable to school districts because they think they would have to pay me more? I've been thinking long and hard about my decision and would really appreciate any advice/feedback. Thanks!
If you want to working a district that is struggling to maintain highly qualified teachers, than you will probably do well with a masters. You will increase the rates of HQ teachers in the district.
I would suggest that if you can get into a program with a dual elementary and moderate special needs (or some common SPED category), it would be the best jobwise. All school districts are looking for teachers you can teach well in an inclusion setting. It will also be going for you since you will be prepared to teach the students will special needs who will inevitably be in your class.
I am looking to see if anyone suggest an easy and not too demanding plus 30 on-line program. I already have a masters and to move up on the pay scale I need a plus 30 hours which would mean another master's
Jill AllenI took some courses with KDS and they had a bunch of options for online graduate credit that you can then apply towards a MA+ The website was [link removed]!
Drug Free Pennsylvania’s third annual media literacy conference, Media Literacy and Its Impact on Substance Abuse, will feature three of the top authorities in the field of media literacy: Dr. Renee Hobbs from Temple University, Dr. Brian Primack from the University of Pittsburgh and Dr. Jean Kilbourne. The goal of the conference is to provide educators and other professionals with an understanding of the core concepts of media literacy to help teach kids how to make healthy lifestyle decisions regarding substance abuse.
Participants will gain the skills needed to reach our kids through interactive, hands-on applications in media literacy including: dissecting advertisements, writing public service announcements (PSA), and analyzing the way companies market their products. These skills can then be implemented in the classroom, or during after-school programs or family sessions.
Participants will also receive a free copy of The Media Straight Up! Critical Thinking Skills for Pennsylvania’s Youth curriculum guide.
I currently am certified in Vocational Rehabilitaton with a cerification in Special Education- Cognitive Disabilies (# 810). I completed my masters program through UW-LaCrosse and received a Masters of Education - Professional Development throught the learning community model. I am wanting to become cross-categorically certified in special education. Do I need to take the Praxis II test for Middle School Content Area to become highly qualified? Also, can I get cross-categorically certified with undergrad credits? Does anyone know a good school with an undergrad program to become cross-categorically certified? Thanks for your help :)

Any other cheap qui...See MoreSo I am one of those teachers they warn you about who waited too long and hasn't taken enough credits to get my Level 2 certificate. I was looking to take "CLEP" tests to get through some credits.
Has anyone done this or heard of anyone doing it?
If so do you know which University they did it through.
Any other cheap quick options would be extremely appreciated.
I am starting to think about masters degree programs that I can do once I get my undergrad. My ultimate goal is to teach in other countries, perhaps in the third world where I can specialize in working with Refugees and/or displaced children.
My wife is a New Zealander and we will eventually end up living back there. There is a steady flow of refugees coming into New Zealand from all over the world so work in that field is something that I could do when we return.
I am seeking input as to what graduate program I should undertake when the time comes so I will be qualified to work in this field. Any information anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
