My school is doing a super hero theme next year and I stumbled across a website that was interesting. I was wondering if any of you use any of their materials/lessons and how it works in your school. Thanks!
You mgiht also like the Super Hero of your Own Attittude song and Dance video. It is on youtube.com/kamaroninstitute. Let me know if you have any issues finding it.

I use the superhero song and the books. I am the music teacher and I use these materials from Pre-k through 5th grade. I have found that if I take the time at the beginning of the year to read one of the books to the children (I use different books for different age groups) and talk to them about finding something positive about EVERYONE in their class I have a much nicer year. Of course I use the song - I'm the music teacher! You wouldn't think it would make as much difference as it does - sets the tone for my classes and lets all the students know how I expect them to treat each other.
I have a Masters in Social Work and I'm interested in becoming a school counselor. Can anyone give me information on programs for certification. I have seen some of the course requirements for school counselors and a lot was covered in my MSW. I would still need educational setting experience. Thanks for the info.

I'm in Illinois and here we have both guidance counselors and school social workers. Perhaps your state also has school social workers.
You might start by checking with the school where you got your MSW (at least if you are wanting to work in that state) and asking them what you might need.
You may also be able to find detailed certification requirements on your state education department's website. That won't give you a total answer because there will still likely be questions about whether a specific course you took meets the specific requirement. You would almost certainly need coursework regarding special education. Here in Illinois to be a school social worker you would need to do an internship.
Before you spend much time and money meeting requirements, check to be sure there are job openings in your area. I believe that in Illinois it would be easier to find a position as a school social worker than as a guidance counselor (but I could be wrong about that).
Good luck!

I have a job interview tomorrow with the guidance department of a large school district. Is it necessary that I wear a suit? Would it be ok for me to wear a nice top and skirt?

Plus, large school districts tend to have several people on the interview team, and they all will form an opinion of you that will include how you present yourself.
I wore a nice suit to my last interview (a hand-me-down, high end suit that someone I babysit for gave to me) and when my principal introduced me to the staff at our first mtg of the year, he actually commented on what a "Snazzy Dresser" I am and told them about my fashionable suit lol.
Going in and out of a few interviews in the past, I always saw other candidates in suits as well. I know suits can be pricey, but you don't need a super-nice suit. You can find decent suits on clearance at most dept stores.
Good luck on your interview!

LeahI think is depends on where you live, but in a large school district, I would probably wear a suit. There are suggestions of dress in the following article
I just signed my contract today to serve as the school guidance counselor for a 6-12 school. I have a small office, and I want to make sure that I set it up to be effective with the students (and parents!). Any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

I am beginning my first year as a school counselor at a K-8 school. I would like to set up a webpage on our school's website. Does anyone have websites they would be willing to share? Thanks.
