I was wondering if it was better to just go ahead and take the school counseling comp. exams to fulfill the M.A. requirements or to start on a project?
Does anyone know how the exams are? (Cal State Counseling Grad Program)
I earned an NCC before joining the military and I'm looking for ways to earn my 100 CE clock hours before my NCC expires next year in Oct. I know that I could take a class and earn 45 clock hours, but I'd hate to pay $1500 for a class I've probably already taken. I'm sure there are cheaper ways of earning the credits (and cheap is definitely what I'm going for).
Does anyone know know of any online resources or upcoming conferences in the TN area? I'm stationed at Fort Campbell, KY and we're about to start our field training exercises, so I really won't have much time for conferences. But, I'll take any help I can get. Thanks for your time.
A local counselor sent me a link to a website called HealthForumOnline.com. It seems to be pretty good, but I'd basically have to pay $25 per CE credit.

Must you teach before being a Public School Counselor?
I plan on starting my Masters this Spring, but want to make sure that I do not have to teach for a certain amount of time before getting a job at a school.
I plan to work at a Public Elementary School. Does anyone know what the salary is like for this job in Oklahoma?

You can also go to a ASCA website and search reciprocity to find out each state requirements or simply go to Oklahoma Department of Education to find out if you need to hold teaching certification prior to becoming a counselor. I know for sure in Texas you need.
I found out this morning that a 7-year old autistic child from my school went missing last night. Crews searched all night and all day, but he still has not been found. What are some suggestions for dealing with this at school tomorrow? He is in a special needs classroom most of the day, but in a regular first grade classroom for part of the day.

Each homeroom teacher was asked to talk to his/her individual class. I only had one child that I had to talk with individually. This was another special needs child who was with the missing child almost all day long.
Fortunately about 30 minutes before dismissal we got word that the child had been found and was in good shape. He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, but the news is reporting he is in good condition. So the day ended on a much happier note than it started.
I really don't think any school would balk at taking him into 10th grade if he finished 9th grade last year. Do you have a transcript that shows he finished 9th grade? Tell them he's been privately tutored these past six weeks because you knew you were moving home.
Especially if you'd find out what books they're using in his new school for literature class and have him read that book(s). Find out what reading was required over the summer - many high schools do require summer reading - and have him read those books. Some of this can be looked up online or it's information that can be gotten through e-mail. Some books are available to be read online - you wouldn't even have to buy them. Check out theGutenbergproject.org.
Six weeks does not a school year make or break. And what do his last year's teachers say about this? You can certainly ask them if they think he should enter 9th or 10th.
Good luck. Welcome home.

In our state, missing 7 weeks of school could automatically retain a child. I would see if your new school district has a test to make sure that he is placed appropriately.

I am looking for some fun activites to do with students 3rd- 5th to get them excited and prepared for MAP- I am a counselor who has met with all students and already set their personal MAP goals. Any exciting activites would be helpful.
I just got the book "juice box bully" I love it and also like the Promise. I will be using it with my K-5 students. I am just loooking for some helpful discussion question or ideas anyone has used with this book.
LeahI have not used that book, but I have several articles that you may find helpful: Educator's Guide to Bullying; Aggressive Girls; Cliques and Put-Downs in Elementary School; Assertiveness Training for Children.
Just click below and on the article of your choice

To the OP call the principal and make an appointment to talk to him Let him know about the shirt incident so he can check into it in the meantime. He should have some answers and if it indeed occurred that way then something needs to be done about the perpetrator.
