Is anyone else waiting for NBPTS results? This process is close to an end and I am so worried that I will have to redo. I spent so much time and effort and money into it. Any advise on those who have passed for Counseling/NBPTS?

Its hard to stop thinking about each entry and assessment. My experience is that you will be surprised by the difference between your perception and the reality of each score. Don't try to figure it out. Just be grateful that you put yourself on the line and had the guts to complete the process.
I am going to start working with two seventh grade girls on how to deal with inappropriate sexual comments made to them by middle school boys. They came to me with this problem and want to know appropriate ways to deal with it without getting mad or in trouble. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Why are we not working with the middle school boys who make these inappropriate comments?? That would be my first question. Such comments made in any work environment will have these young men fired from their jobs - sexual harassment is a serious charge to bring forth.
These girls need to tell the boys to stop. But you should make the boys' teachers aware that this is happening. If as educators we purport to be preparing our students for real life, allowing these boys to make such comments is NOT preparing them for real life where such comments are considered inappropriate to the point where it can threaten their jobs.
At the least the girls can say, "We don't think this is funny. If you want to talk to us, talk about something else."
But if that doesn't work - and it likely won't - the boys need to be brought in and educated. Not punished but educated. 7th grade boys are just that and are finding their way through their own rising sexual identity but they need good guidance to do that. Anyone watching prime time television these days could be easily led to believe that sexual innuendo is appropriate but real life is not a sit com television show.

I am not a Native, but, many Natives have thought that I was. I come from a line of excellent Educators. I have always tried to instill the importance of learnng a second language in all of my students. I feel that all of my classes are extremely versatle. I feel like many of my students have learned. I have always worked extremely hard each and every day. Very often, I am one of the last teachers left in the school. My Observations are excellent. I have written Curricula. I feel like I am a excellent Spanish teacher. I would be the first to admit the contrary. And yet, I have had the "extreme luck" in finding Districts which do not have the knowledge or desire to have quality Foreigh Language Programs. I am then let go. I am mentally exhausted. I work trememdously hard in every single area, remain very optimistic each year, and this is what happens. This has been happening to me for the past 10 years. I am only 40 years old, and have been severely exhausted for the past 5 years, but, due to my optimism, have continued on. Due to this, to me, Districts would look more favorable towards other teachers. But, none of this has been my fault. What is going on here? Why is a 40 year old teacher, of a valuable language, considering retirement, for the past 5 years? Help!
LeahI'm so sorry you are having such a difficult time. You sound very dedicated and skilled in two languages. Surely there are many places of employment that would find your talents extremely useful. Just a thought, could you get a master's degree and teach at a community college?
I have completed the entry - Maximizing Student Learning twice. Can anyone offer meaningful feedback on how to complete the entry (high school level) successfully? I am on my 3 attempt and cannot figure out what I am doing wrong?
Can a depressed adult seem just fine when out in public and at work. I mean be outgoing and even overly friendly with strangers then act mad, sad at home.
Yes. You may want to complete the following worksheet, "Coping with Stress - Tips for Educators" and/or view "Ten Keys to Educator's Survival" at the followings site:
BeforeBecause of a difficult situation, I became very depressed. I could smile, laugh and put on a great act to others. The minute I got in the car, or closed the door, the tears would start down my cheeks and I couldn't control them. I quit seeing people or going out very much because it took so much energy to fake it
Just curious if there are any states that are in need of certified school counselors? I have my masters degree, but there are hundreds of applicants for every opening in Michigan. I have 6 years of experience in Florida, but I'd like to move elsewhere. I'm from Michigan, but the market is very saturated there. Are there any other states where school counselors are in demand? I've been told that a school counseling degree is valuable to have, but so far, my experience is that it's about as useless as a masters in liberal studies.

Advice: Don't come to MN if you want any job in education! Most of the paraprofessionals are licensed teachers and the substituted have years of teaching under their belts (they were all cut).
