I am a school counseling grad student and am preparing a presentation on making referrals to outside mental health services. I would love to hear from as many school counselors as possible on whether you frequently make these referrals. Is this something you can specifically discuss with the parents or do you imply these services may be needed? I have been told in some districts you are never to refer a parent to an outside counselor for their child.
I definitely refer students to outside professionals when necessary. I speak with the parent and give them a packet of names of professionals in the area that they may find to be a good fit. I also direct them to their child's pediatrician since sometimes they have therapists in their insurance network that may be available.
In his short article on motivating students, Dr. Marv Marshall writes:
A very important difference between the two types of motivation concerns building characteristics and values such as integrity, kindness, generosity, caring, perseverance, and responsibility.

but the thing is, if i fall this year as...See Moreim a year 12 right now and am suppose to gradutate in 3 weeks or so BUT heres the thing.... i dont want to graduate at the previous school that im at, and i want to fail on purpose so that i can enter a much much better skool and repeat my 12th grade there. I've fully made up my mind on this matter.
but the thing is, if i fall this year as a year 12, am allowed to repeat, like can i? or are they gonna tell me to just go to TAFE or something? Because i really want to start over, so that i dont graduate with any regrats in mind. Or is it better to drop out right now? OR is it better to fail?
Do everything you can to graduate and get a diploma. Then go to a two-year college. This is a fresh start for you, a new beginning. Then after two years you may wish to transfer to a four year college.
I'm a professor at Kent State University and would like to reach out to School Counselors regarding our special education programs.
Basically, I'm trying to find an effective way to let School Counselors know about our undergraduate programs so they can pass the word to high school students who are interested in becoming special education teachers.
Any suggestions? Is there a mailing list available anywhere?
