Unfortunately, my NYS provisional certification expired almost 3 years ago.
Prior to it's expiration, I worked for about 1.5 years as a counselor, but was laid off in 2009 due to the economic situation. I was unable to find work as a counselor, so for the past few years I have been teaching English abroad, so of course I never completed the additional hours and 15 credits I needed for permanent certification.
Has anyone had any experience with receiving a renewal or time extension of an already expired provisional School Counselor certification? I have contacted the NYS dept of Ed but haven't received any response.

Take note that AFS-USA is offering $1,000 off on the 2015 Global Prep Program to all eligible AFS Volunteers, their children and grandchildren, as well as all former AFS host families. ( You may have some in your school who can take advantage of this offer.)

Retired Professional Counselor Metro Nashville Public Schools
We recently had a student death, due to suicide, and some of our teachers have approached us in coming up with an outline or script of the best ways to approach and provide this type of news to their class. I have found some resources but wanted to get ideas from fellow counselors that may have experienced similar situations.
I'm reaching out to request your help. I am part of a group of professionals looking to create a mentoring service for high school students. We are currently in the process of finalizing our service, but would love some counselor feedback on how counselors are effectively working with their high achieving students in high needs areas to provide them with the support that they need.
Please provide us with feedback by completing this SHORT survey regarding mentoring in high school. Thank you!
